Six men were charged in a police sweep Wednesday targeting the exploitation of Indigenous women and girls, Winnipeg Police said.
In conjunction with the Indigenous Women and Girls Safety Strategy, Winnipeg Police’s Counter Exploitation Unit conducted an outreach and proactive offender sweep in the community.
The men, ranging from 22 to 70 years of age, were arrested for obtaining sexual services for consideration and released on Undertakings as mandated by the Criminal Code. In addition, five vehicles were seized under the Highway Traffic Act.
Several people working in the sex trade were offered community resources, police said.
Anyone with information regarding exploitation concerns in their community is asked to contact the Counter Exploitation Unit at 204-986-3464 or in the case of an emergency, by calling 911.
