Well that was a mess that was thankfully rectified. F2 is such a frustrating series as it feels like watching it LIVE isn't enough.
Good stuff from the Premas, but wow Durksen that was the surprise. Nice lap by Bortoleto with bravery on the throttle, and Hadjar maybe lost out at the end.
Martins....what can you say. Just cannot get a clean weekend. Shocking showing so far for a title favorite.
Praying for rain in the Feature race so we can get an Antonelli-Dürksen 1-2
3rd year of Kimi bad luck in Imola huh
He starts P4 again now, he's got his place back
Where did you hear that lmao
On the F2 website he is back up to 4th thankfully
See my posts directly below yours
Oh I just saw cool
Bearman has P2 back!!
I dont even think the FIA know what is going on, either they've realised he didnt exceed limits (when others did), or they've made an utter balls up... Well we know thats happened anyway
Chris Medland on X: "And now Bearman is back in P2! The deleted time removed #F2" / X (twitter.com)
Antonelli as well
Yup... Can see one of the Prema's winning the Feature race now - They've looked fast this weekend, and Bortoleto doesnt seem to have the race pace quite yet.
Prema s race pace has been abysmal, hopefully they got it together after Barcelona testing...
Difficult to judge really - Because like Bortoleto; Kimi has been slowly learning race craft at this level - The one who should be judged (Bearman) either hasn't been available (Would have been interesting to see how he faired in Jeddah), or his Quali has been hampered... He did look quick in Australia though.
Dürksen casually proving the doubters wrong and getting 3rd in a PHM
Yep. I was a doubter, expected him to be this season's Samaia/Deledda, but he's looked perfectly at home in F2. I reckon he's got a good shot at a podium at some point. Happy to see him doing well too because he's representing a country it's fair to say you don't see much in high level motorsport.
He’s unlucky to still have 0 points, didn’t expect him to outperform Barnard ngl. All though I watched FRECA in the seasons he was in and he never seemed necessarily bad, was actually surprised he only got 1 podium there
Yeah he was ok in FRECA, it's just such a big step up I figured he'd have trouble.
This aged well
F*ck
Still P5 tho
uhhh it's being reported that ollie's time was reinstated but i can't find any other info... is it true or not? [eta] it's true! both him and kimi!!! prema enjoyers we feast tonight
Bortoleto would be getting generational shouts if he was European, change my mind
Wish he had half the OB PR machine
The races are going to be a lot of fun.
What happened to Maini??.. he was slow today
Yup. Can still score some points if he gets it right in the races.
I'm starting to think Antonelli is a little bit overrated. Among the drivers on the current grid he was the one who tested the most in Imola recently and even so the result was nothing spectacular. I'm not saying he's a bad driver, on the contrary, he's very good, but maybe not as good as they want to paint ("generational talent") or nothing that justifies an early debut in F1 currently...
Among the rookies, Durksen has caught my attention more compared to Antonelli.
Imola has never been his track tbf, give him some time to develop in F2, and who knows?
I think he will improve. Eventually, he would be F2 champion. But this would be no different from what others, with less hype, did. My point is that he's a great driver, but he hasn't shown himself to be exceptional so far (given the team he's in, the support from Mercedes, and the amount of testing he's done). Nothing so far that justifies Mercedes' desperation in putting him in F1.
Other drivers with much less hype, support, and testing had a more exciting debut, like Lawson and Drugovich for example, who won races in their first-ever weekend in F2 competing for mid-teams.
No I completely understand what you’re saying, I’m just saying like he was impressive prior to starting up F2
Honestly, Durksen is probably the least talented of all the rookies, but F2 is sure to bring surprises. Edit: apart from Villagomez.
With all due respect I don't think ANYONE in this F2 class is below good. This is a comically stacked grid. Merc were stupid to rush Kimi up a tier when this F3 grid is kinda weak.
I don't really think 'stupid' is at all accurate, I'd say it's a well thought out decision by Toto and Merc. It's a new regulation year, he's been quite on the pace so far so why let his opponents get an extra year to adjust to the regs?
And how would him dominating a 'weak' F3 grid help him at all? I know Merc would prefer he have more development in a car more similar to F1 cars, and would probably prefer he versus more competitive drivers to push him. Winning an 'easy' F3 championship would only add more hype and prove nothing to people who have data to look at.
Plus, if he does do well this year (title contention type of well), Merc have the option of putting him into F1 in a season where they have an open seat. Originally the plan would have been 2 years in F2 then either a Williams seat or replace Lewis at Merc, now they can choose to stick with that plan or can put him in for 2025 easily.
Sometimes drivers don't have the privilege of driving only fast cars like Hauger. Durksen had some good results in his career.
That's true, I might've been a bit harsh on him in my first comment. Durksen aside, the overarching point I'm trying to make (which might have not come across too well) is that F2 is highly unpredictable, with lots of factors playing in as to who does well. We often see the less talented drivers fighting high up in the points, such as Latifi, Mazepin etc. Whilst talented drivers like Bearman, Antonelli, Martins etc might struggle for differing reasons.
What the hell happened. So they deleted lap times long after they were completed? Did Prema fail to communicate it to the drivers immediately or did they not know at all?
Mega job Borboleto!! Enzo p10 would be Nice for brazilian double pole flexing, but i guess p6 is just better
I turn off as soon as the last cars finish their laps and half the top 10 have changed, with cars that were around 15th now in the top 10. One normal F2 day is all I ask for
Prema😭
WTF! Hauger now suddenly number 7! https://x.com/Formula2/status/1791483926663323793
Race gods redemption.
Durksen P3 🤯
Gratulerer med dagen til oss 🇳🇴
Martins is really struggling this year so far.
I really cant understand why Martins is struggling so much? There is no doubt that he is a talented driver.
He may simply not get on with the ground effect cars. I think it's part of why we've seen some drivers who were expected to be great doing pretty poorly.
Durksen's performance is surprising! Hope he can get some points on sunday.
ART are nowhere... How can a team so successful over the years be so slow
Damn Miyata truly struggling to get close to Maloney. Surprising considering how good he was in his first F2 qualy
F2 just hasn't worked out for him, I expected him to be closer to the front of the field by this point. Just consistently a second off the pace to Maloney
Yeah, I sort of expected he'd struggle on the street circuits but it's concerning to see him struggling at a track which is much more similar to what he's used to from Japan.
killing myself [2]
How does it take so long to delete laps?
Why are so many laps being deleted here?
I kind of think 'track limits' have jumped the shark a bit. It's not like any of these drivers are doing massive cuts. It's all just a bit anal at this point.
Is this what we really want for motorsport?
What happened to Martins ?
Good job Prema, top class performance by giving your driver the details they need
Super happy for Bortoleto! 2nd pole position. Imagine if he wasn't retired from 50% of the races through no fault of his own... Well, I'll try not to get too optimistic for the weekend because of that
He needs to improve his starts. For every race it seemed he is struggling to get a good launch.
For sure. It's easily his weakest point
Bearman 16 antonelli 18????
Both got laps deleted for track limits, were originally 2/4
I know, but how many laps were deleted for each?
They enter the track with high fuel so 1 lap does a lot of difference
Didn't Antonelli have a P3 time that he didn't improve on enough to make it to P2 at one point? Should have been 2 solid laps
Lap times deleted
What the fuck is a France?
Ollie: Wow Victor, you got track penalties too, hence why you're P20?
Victor: Oui... Track Limits!!
Wtf antonelli and beatman could have done another lap had he known this is bullshit
For five minutes Prema were back.... and it's gone
As a positive, at least Bearman showed he can adapt from F1 back to F2, as had doubts he'd be able to after Abu Dhabi last season - Prema need to learn communication with their drivers now instead.
🥲
Really bad these deletions happen so late. Gives drivers no chance to correct.
Would have been nice to see the infractions
Bro Bearman spend too much time on Haas
How can this take so long? 5 Minuten after the chequered flag and there are still time deletions...
WHY THE FUCK ARE THEY NOT INFORMING THEM ON THE TRACK LIMIT WARNINGS, FFS PREMA
What if the team weren't even told, that would be hilarious
Well shit
What a shit show from prema
killing myself
Not today, old friend! Their laps have been reinstated, so we get Bearman P2 and Antonelli P4 🎉
Same lmao
Hold Up... HOLD UP... Wait and I'll come join you!!
Martins and Antonelli on the last row. Don’t think anyone had their bets placed there
Prema 19th and 21st smh
Martins still last
Oof Antonelli time deleted
McLaren vs Ferrari vs Red Bull with Mercedes just behind.
What happens to Dams today? Dumpster fire of a quality session. I don’t expect much of Correa, but they basically got Crawford one hot lap.
Mechanical. Jak posted on insta he was in pits 22 of 30 minutes.
Prema and not telling their drivers crucial information at the end of a session, a match made in heaven
