Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have finished their tour of Nigeria to champion their Archewell Foundation

American celebrities have been "throwing shade" and are "seeing Meghan Markle for who she is", it has been claimed.

Dail Mail Columnist Maureen Callahan has hit out at the Duchess of Sussex, following her recent trip to Nigeria with Prince Harry.

The couple travelled to Nigeria for three days after being invited by the country's highest-ranking military official, Christopher Musa.

The Sussexes championed their Archewell Foundation's mental health initiatives for young people and promoted the Invictus Games which Nigeria joined for the first time last year.

In a discussion with GBN America host Nana Akua, Callahan fumed that the trip was the "bedrock of her fundamental hypocrisy", after portraying a positive and caring persona amid their ongoing feud with the Royal Family.

Callahan added that both Harry and Meghan have "sold out Harry's family multiple times through multiple high-profile platforms".

In criticism of the Nigeria visit, dubbed a 'de facto royal tour', Callahan said the three-day stint only "serves to knock them down further and further".

As well as their recent trip overseas, Meghan Markle has launched her latest lifestyle project, American Riviera Orchard, which has begun selling jams ahead of a new Netflix series hosted by the Duchess.

Discussing the latest project with host Nana Akua, Callahan noted that Meghan did "not attend the Met Gala" despite being friends with Anna Wintour and a strong ally of Vogue Magazine.

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS:

Callahan explained: "We recently had the Met Gala, and there were no shortage of starlets on that red carpet.

"One very significant person is missing from that red carpet, and that would be Meghan Markle."

Highlighting that Anna Wintour is an "avowed monarchist", she claimed that Wintour would "not have submitted an invitation the Montecito way".

Callahan then recalled a Vogue write-up which was published ahead of the Met Gala, which appeared to "throw shade" at Meghan.

Callahan told GBNA: "Vogue did an incredible write-up right before the gala of a dinner that Gwyneth Paltrow hosted at her Montecito estate, so a neighbour of Harry and Meghan.

"It was a Goop collaboration, and among her guest list were Oprah Winfrey and Ted Sarandos. So here's Meghan attempting to get her little lifestyle brand off the ground, and Goop is clearly a model for her.

"Oprah, who conducted that very first bombshell interview that aired all over the world, and Ted Sarandos, who cut those two a check for a reported $100million, and since cancelled their docu-series, has given Meghan a dubious cooking show. They're on the guest list at Gwyneth Paltrow's Montecito estate, and Meghan Markle is not there."

She concluded: "The Vogue write-up had all these little like winks and nods of shade thrown her way. They called Montecito, you know, quote-unquote, the American Riviera.

"It was all just little daggers sheathed in there. It was great. And it's further proof to any doubtful Briton that we here in America see Meghan Markle for exactly who she is."
