Heather Langenkamp Wants to Return in an ‘Elm Street’ Legacy Sequel

Netflix

With Jamie Lee Curtis returning as Laurie Strode in a trio of Halloween legacy sequels, Heather Langenkamp is holding out hope for Nancy Thompson to get the same treatment. As another one of horror’s most popular final girls, Langenkamp made her debut as Nancy Thompson in A Nightmare on Elm Street in 1984. She reprised the role for the 1987 sequel A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: The Dream Warriors and later played herself in the franchise’s only meta movie, Wes Craven’s New Nightmare, in 1994.

While the Nancy character was killed off in Dream Warriors, the success of Blumhouse’s Halloween trilogy has proven horror fans will embrace the resurrection of dead characters in alternate timelines. That makes it possible that Langenkamp could potentially return in a legacy sequel to A Nightmare on Elm Street that either ignores Dream Warriors or retcons its ending with Nancy surviving. In any case, as Langenkamp recently told Entertainment Tonight, she’s hopeful to get one more chance to play Nancy Thompson in a new film. As Langenkamp explains:

“Nancy could fight Freddy one last time. I would really like that. Gosh, I’d love to see a future in that. I’ve been really watching the Halloween saga that’s been out, and I love watching Jamie Lee Curtis get to play that part. You know, this age, where I think we have so much to give to those storylines, but yeah, I wish I was in control of that, but, unfortunately, it’s one of those Hollywood very complicated things.”

Robert Englund isn’t getting any younger, and the odds of him returning as Freddy Krueger for one last film diminish with each passing year. Back in 2018, he suggested he still had one more Freddy performance left in him, and that was four years ago. If this legacy sequel is going to happen, it needs to be soon. For now, both Englund and Langenkamp can be seen with recent roles on Netflix, with the former appearing in Stranger Things 4 and the latter popping up in Mike Flanagan’s The Midnight Club.
