A staff member at Dobbies Braehead has walked 1,000 steps with her dog to raise money for a teenage cancer charity.

Mags Ferguson has been working with the garden centre for more than six years and her effort was part of the more than £23,000 the retail chain raised for Teenage Cancer Trust.

The fundraising included in-store donations, christmas shopping nights, team challenges, and carrier bag donations

Customers were also allowed to add a donation when booking seasonal events.

Ms Ferguson, 57, said: “I took on the challenge to support people less fortunate than myself and to help the Dobbies team.

"I love doing things like this, especially when I can take my little dog Dexter with me. It’s such a good feeling when you complete a challenge too.”

Every day, seven young people aged 13 to 24 are diagnosed with cancer.

Teenage Cancer Trust focuses on young cancer patients and receives no government aid.

The donations received from Dobbies will fund more specialist support and youth support coordinators, helping teenagers and young adults face the harsh realities of cancer.

Donna Bednarek, senior relationship manager from Teenage Cancer Trust, said: "It is phenomenal that the team in Dobbies Braehead, as well as their loyal customers, have raised more than £23,000 for Teenage Cancer Trust.

"This incredible fundraising will help us to provide unique, tailored support that lets young people hold on to their identity, their independence and their dreams – so cancer doesn’t rob them of the best years of their life.”

Nick Anderson, operations director at Dobbies, said: "It is fantastic to see colleagues from Braehead supporting fundraising efforts for Teenage Cancer Trust and I’m incredibly proud of the funds we have raised to-date.

"The Teenage Cancer Trust team does amazing work to support individuals and families when they need it most and this milestone is a huge testament to our colleagues who are so committed to helping them on their mission.”
