Better understanding of weather extremes: Uni Graz supports ESA mission EarthCARE

How do greenhouse gases, clouds and aerosols influence vertical radiation in the Earth's atmosphere? What role does this play in global warming and the occurrence of extreme weather events? ESA's EarthCARE mission will provide data to answer these questions. The new satellite was launched on 29 May 2024 as a joint venture of the European Space Agency (ESA) and the Japanese Space Agency (JAXA). The mission is being supported by the WegenerNet 3D climate research laboratory at the University of Graz.

European champion of biodiversity: Graz takes top place in City Nature Challenge

Over 43,000 nature observations in four days: this puts the "Graz to Southern Styria Nature Park" region in first place internationally outside of America in this year's City Nature Challenge. In terms of registered species, Styria is also the European champion with 4,065 and is in third place worldwide after La Paz (Bolivia) and Hong Kong.

Research for healthy aging: FWF funds Cluster of Excellence "MetAGE" with 18 million euros

Six researchers from the Field of Excellence "BioHealth" at the University of Graz, together with colleagues from the Medical Universities of Graz and Vienna, have acquired an FWF-funded "Cluster of Excellence". Now a newly formed center of excellence will be created under the leadership of the University of Graz. The aim is to gain a better understanding of healthy aging. The findings will flow directly into clinical research.
