Paris without air-conditioning in June.

Years ago, I wouldn’t have even thought about this. But obviously global warming has taken its toll. I’m going to Paris Light, June and looking at an apartment that does not have air conditioning. There’s a chance they can bring in one of those portable things that my opinion never do much

Would you stay someplace without AC in June?

I would, in fact I do, in June, in July, in August, as most Parisians do. I guess it's a cultural difference.

Each building and each flat reacts differently to heat waves, but as a general rule, beware of flats under roofs or facing south. But the weather can also be cool in June.

I would not. I used to even go in JUly without it but that was a couple decades ago. I've had too many sleepless nights. The issue in a city is that buildings are close together, you can't get any breeze and the streets are noisy anyway.

It is really just a guess, as it could be fine. I seem to recall a horrific heat wave end of June not that long ago. It was 2022 (not just France).

Paris reached 101 (38C) that june.

I don't rent apts much so don't have this problem. I have in the past and did have one of those portable things and it worked fine, but is good for only one room. It had to vent out a window through a hose.

IThose zinc roofs in Paris can heat up to almost 200F, by the way.

I would not stay in a place without AC in June these days. If a heat wave occurs with no AC, your trip may be ruined.

Yeah, several years ago I would’ve risked it but I was just looking it’s already been very warm in Paris.

The apartment I’m looking at is on a very quiet street but I just don’t know but I want to risk it if I get there and it’s 80° that could be problematic

Thanks for your thoughts

I wouldn't. I remember using a/c in an apartment at the end of May 2010. I don't recall the temps, but people were sticking their feet in fountains and it was so hot no one was shooing them out. Since that time, we've had cooler summers when we didn't need a/c, but when you need it, you need it. The difference between a tourist in Paris in the heat vs. a local is they have the option of laying low for a few days, reducing their activities, etc., but a tourist who has paid thousands of dollars for a short visit wants a good night's sleep and usually doesn't want to just sit around.

I wouldn’t even consider staying somewhere in June without air conditioning.

It’s a risk you take. It could be fine if it’s just regular June weather but if it’s hotter than normal it could be miserable if used to AC at home. I don’t have AC in Nice so my tolerance for heat is very high so that rental wouldn’t bother me.

I would never book a place without AC. I remember a terrible heatwave in June, 2006. We walked around in the heat and were more than delighted to return to good AC in our hotel.

It depends a lot on the apartment. 97% of Parisians don’t have AC. I’ve never had AC in 10 years in Paris. We survived.

But a hotel room facing south on the 5th floor heats up very differently from an apartment on the 1st floor with windows in front and back, allowing for a draft. So it depends a bit on the situation.
