The Hudson City School District’s 2024-25 Budget Vote and Board of Education Election will take place on Tuesday, May 21, 2024 from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. at various polling locations. For information on the proposed 2024-25 Hudson City School district budget, please click here.

Voting Locations:

District 1 – City of Hudson – Hudson Central Fire Station (77 N. 7th St, Hudson)

District 2 – Greenport, Stottville/Stockport, Ghent – Greenport Community Center (500 Town Hall Dr, Hudson)

District 3 – Claverack, Livingston, Taghkanic – A.B. Shaw Fire House (67 NY-23, Claverack)

*Please note the new polling location for District 1 (formerly John L. Edwards Primary School). This change was made due to the closure of JLE and approved by the Board of Education on February 11, 2019. The Hudson Central Fire Station meets all the Federal ADA requirements and has ample parking. This change is only for the annual School District Budget Vote and Election held in May each year. For General Elections, please confirm your polling location with the Columbia County Board of Elections at 518-828-3115.

Voter Eligibility and Registration

To be eligible to vote, you must be:

  • A U.S. citizen 18 years of age or older;
  • A primary resident of the Hudson City School District for a period of 30 days or more directly preceding the day of the vote;
  • Registered to vote with either the School District or the Columbia County Board of Elections;
  • Not otherwise ineligible to vote under Section 5-106 of the Election Law.

If you have not previously registered and would like to vote in this referendum, you must register with the School District Board of Registration. You can also register to vote at any time by submitting a completed voter registration form to the Columbia County Board of Elections (401 State Street, Hudson, NY 12534). Deadline for voter registration: Tuesday, May 7, 2024

Board of Education Election

The Hudson City School District School District Board of Education will have two non-paid seats up for election on Tuesday, May 21, 2024. There will be two (2) three-year terms ending in June 2027 as follows:

  • Incumbent: Selha Graham (7/1/2021 – 6/30/2024)
  • Incumbent: Lauren Jones (10/10/2023 – 6/30/2024)

Nominating petitions are due to the Board of Education Clerk at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, May 1, 2024. If you’re interested in joining the Hudson City School District  Board of Education, please contact the Board Clerk to get a nominating petition (518-828-4360, ext. 2101). Prospective candidates must have a primary residence in the Hudson City School District, be at least 18-years-old and be a registered voter. Prospective school board candidates must obtain at least 100 signatures on the nominating petition (supporters who sign the petition must also be residents in the school district).

School board candidates should be committed to public education and the advancement of the school district. Responsibilities of school board members include:

  • Creating a shared vision for the future of education at HCSD
  • Setting the direction of the school district to achieve high student performance
  • Creating strategic partnerships with community stakeholders
  • Budget development and adoption
  • Policy development and adoption
