The Eurovision class of 2023: Where are they now?

It might be hard to believe it, but it’s been a year since Käärijä emerged from a giant box and gave us Cha Cha Cha, Voyager brought an actual car onto the stage, and Loreen gave us the Tattoo vocals that earned her a second Eurovision trophy. 

Since then, there's been new music from Alessandra, Luke Black and Mae Muller, while Vesna and Lord of the Lost have put on shows - and that's just to name a few. Here’s a glimpse into what some of Eurovision 2023’s artists have been up to.

Loreen - Sweden

The queen herself, Loreen, has had a busy year after her second Eurovision win for Sweden. The month after her win, she picked up an Attitude Pride Award, and several others followed. She appeared on magazine covers across the world — including Rolling Stone UK, Vogue Arabia and Vogue Scandinavia, honouring both her Moroccan and Swedish heritage.

In October 2023, Loreen released a new single Is It Love, which has already racked up over 60 million listens on Spotify. As if that wasn’t enough to fill her schedule, she also went on a sold-out tour across Europe that autumn.

Ahead of the 2024 Contest, Loreen released her new single Forever and will of course be performing in the 2024 Grand Final.

Käärijä - Finland

There was a tough battle for the win at Eurovision 2023. Käärijä might have landed in second place for Finland, but he certainly won a lot of fans. And he did soon get to take home a different trophy — Best Nordic Act at the MTV Music Europe Awards in 2023.

Since then, Käärijä has released new music including Kot Kot, and collaborated with Erika Vikman and Elastinen. He’s starred in advertising campaigns, been on a European tour, and performed at Finland’s national Eurovision selection competition Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu (UMK), reminding viewers why Cha Cha Cha was such a hit across the whole of Europe.

Ahead of the 2024 Grand Final, Käärijä performed at Malmö’s Eurovision Village on Friday 10 May and also popped up during the soon-to-be iconic Semi-Final interval act, We Just Love Eurovision Too Much.

Joker Out – Slovenia

Europe’s favourite Slovenian indie band went straight into preparation for a European summer tour after Eurovision 2023, including plenty of sold-out shows. They brought on some Eurovision 2023 favourites as special guests, including Käärijä in Estonia. So that even more people could hear Carpe Diem they also took to stages at European festivals. 

After a sold-out joint show in Dublin with Ireland’s Wild Youth, the two bands put together a mini tour of the UK. Joker Out clearly love performing live. After a 2023 full of shows, they put out their first live album, then started 2024 with another tour, with yet more sold-out venues.

Wild Youth – Ireland

And speaking of Wild Youth, David Whelan has found a new way to enjoy music. He competed in Dancing With The Stars in Ireland in 2024, and ended up in the final. Alongside that and the shows with Joker Out, Wild Youth have been putting out new music too.

Teya & Salena – Austria

Teya & Salena brought us one of the most important questions of 2023: Who The Hell is Edgar? Since then, they’ve gone back to their roots as solo artists and TEYA has found an exciting new collaboration. Ahead of the Eurovision Song Contest 2024, TEYA released a track with Aiko from Czechia, Hunger. And she’s also off on tour in summer 2024 supporting Luke Black, who competed for Serbia in 2023 with Samo Mi Se Spava.

Voyager - Australia

If you’ve been missing Voyager since the 2023 Contest, pay close attention during the 2024 results. The band’s lead singer Danny Estrin will be announcing Australia’s douze points. 

In early 2024, they also had an exhibition of their props in a museum in Australia and toured their music following the 2023 Contest, which they reluctantly put on pause when Danny had health complications.

They’re a band that clearly loves Eurovision because they also had a great time teasing the announcement of Electric Fields for Eurovision 2024 and have been giving their reactions to the entries.

Gustaph - Belgium

After a stunning performance of Because Of You at Eurovision 2024, Gustaph has certainly got his place in the Eurovision hall of fame. Since then, he’s made an appearance as a guest judge on Drag Race Belgique. In the run up to Eurovision 2024 he released a new single, Faith In What You Feel, and has announced a summer tour from June 2024.

The Eurovision Song Contest will take place in Malmö, Sweden on Tuesday 7 May (First Semi-Final), Thursday 9 May (Second Semi-Final) and Saturday 11 May (Grand Final) 2024.
