DALLAS, TX (WNCN) — NC State, who streaked into the NCAA Tournament, is looking to win their eighth game in a row and reach the Elite 8 for the first time in nearly four decades.

The No. 11 Wolfpack (24-14) play No. 2 Marquette (26-9) Friday night in a Sweet 16 matchup in the South region. Tip off at the American Airlines Center in Dallas is set for 7:09 in a game that will be broadcast here on CBS 17.

Over their first two games, the Golden Eagles out of the Big East have been led by Kam Jones (23 points per game) and Tyler Kolek (19.5 points, 11 assists per game).

Wolfpack big men DJ Burns (20 points, 6 rebounds per game) and Mohamed Diarra (14 points, 12.5 rebounds per game) paced the team over the first weekend of play. DJ Horne, NC State’s leading scoring this season, has averaged 13.5 points and 6 rebounds so far in this tournament.

Neither program has reached the NCAA Tournament quarterfinal round in a while. Marquette’s last trip to the Elite 8 was in 2013, while NC State hasn’t been since 1986.

The winner moves on to face either No. 1 Houston or No. 4 Duke, who play later Friday night, on Sunday at the American Airlines Center.
