I was there last weekend, and it looked like the building was closed (I mean “wood board shut” closed)... can anyone confirmed that this museum is still in operation? Have they relocated somewhere else?

Hi there, I'm sorry you visited when we were temporarily closed. Our museum temporarily closes for a month twice a year to install exhibitions. We are not closed and are located at 351 Homer Avenue in Palo Alto. Best way to ensure if we are open is to go to our website or give us a call at 650-321-1004.

Once a year the MOAH opens their San Carlos Warehouse to museum members. We joined this year in order to attend the concerts they offer. This tour was a bonus we did not anticipate. It literally is a warehouse in an industrial area with row after row of shelves with assorted items depicting life in America over the past 150 years. I saw things that I remember having in our home, homes of family & friends, things seen on TV and in museums. It was a wonderful experience and I recommend joining this Museum, so you can go next year to wee the warehouse, They also had snacks for attendees.

When I was there today, the exhibit was on Thomas Edison and his peers in the development of electricity. The house and the grounds are also of interest. The kitchen and replica of a store were fascinating......fun to see things you grew up with now considered museum worthy.....

I really enjoy the Museum of American Heritage (MOAH) in Palo Alto, CA.

Events I] I or friends and I have attended include the following:
1) A display of real live classic cars. What an amazing variety and styles of old beautiful cars. It is held outdoors and is a must see.
2) A display of televisions form the very first ones manufactured and sold. What a wonderful history.
3) Once in awhile MOAH holds a day that their experts repair broken appliances and other things. What a treat!

MOAH is a treasure in that it displays interesting parts of our history and heritage.

This small, usually free, museum changes out its collect 3 times a year. It is in an historic house and has a garden that features a WWII victory garden. At Christmas every year there is a large, operating LEGO display ....normally for a nominal charge.
Ito is that later this year the museum will be offering tours of its warehouse in San Carlos that houses over 5,000 artifacts

We take so many things for granted, especially those born after say 1980. So many inventions were made in the 100 year period before that that changed the face of American life. Of course, the changes due to automation, computers and cell phones have changed the lives also. But, they are built on the back of the basic inventions that changed life: such as Electricity, Radio, Mechanical devices for knitting, Automobiles, Trains, Airplanes to name a few.

Shows lots or local history with some lesser known info about the roots of what would become Silicon Valley. Lots of old artifacts from bygone days, including a well stocked kitchen of yesteryear. Well informed docents will enthusiastically answer most any question you might have.

This is a fascinating little museum; I visited with my over-energetic preschooler so I wasn't able to fully enjoy the exhibits at the time but I would definitely love to return. It's definitely more for adults but they thoughtfully added a small children's play room in the back where kids can play with a train table, real typewriter, etc. We visited during the winter but there is a little garden adjacent to the museum as well. We did visit the seasonal leggo exhibit which was fun - enjoyable for both kids and adults. Admission is free (small charge for the leggo exhibit) but there is a donation box upon entry.

Small house museum but if you're interested in early medical equipment or house objects from the early 20th century, it's a free attraction worth an hour and walkable from central Palo Alto.

This should be listed as the #1 attraction in Palo Alto -- I live here, and go to this museum whenever they have a new exhibit. It's in a real old Palo Alto doctor's house, with lovely gardens, and a park across the street. The kitchen and medical office are chock full of everyday items used by the MD and his family. The rotating exhibits have covered things such as: typewriters/toys/television... and that's just the T's!

I wholeheartedly recommend this museum for visitors (and residents!) of all ages!
