Four Winds/Minnewaukan superstar Deng Deng was officially presented with the Mr. Basketball award on Wednesday.
The program was led by veteran head coach Rick Smith, who’s coached two Mr. Basketballs in his time here: Jason Feather in 2016, and now Deng. The large sign commemorating Deng’s award was unveiled, along with a special commemorative cloth. Veteran broadcaster Mark Beighley presented Deng with his plaque.
Swarms of people came out to support Deng. Local elementary school students filled the seats, some of them with handmade basketball signs that they used for a group picture with Mr. Basketball after the ceremony. Many of Deng’s family members were in attendance as well. A long line formed at the end for everybody to congratulate Deng, one by one.
Deng has left his mark on this passionate community, and now has a football career at the University of North Dakota to look forward to.
