How to Create a PlayStation Network Account

This article explains how to create a PlayStation Network (PSN) account on a computer or a PS5 or PS4 console (these are the only supported places for making an account).

How to Create a PlayStation Account on a Computer

The PlayStation Network (PSN) is a digital entertainment service for your PlayStation. With a PSN account, you can download games and other apps. Here's how to create an account from your computer:

1. Open the Create an Account page at Sony Entertainment Network and select Create.

2. Select your country from the drop-down menu, choose your language, and fill out the other details in the form. Press Next when you're done.

3. Enter your date of birth into the appropriate boxes and then press Next.

4. Enter your email address and create a password for your new PSN account.

   It's highly recommended that you pick a password you've never used before, on any website. We have some tips for making a great password if you need some guidance.

5. Read the Personalized Content page and check or uncheck the settings as you see fit. Select Confirm to continue.

6. Select Agree and Create Account.

7. Open your email and verify your address by clicking the link delivered to your Inbox from Sony.

8. Choose the Online ID that others will see when you play online games, then fill out the rest of the form with your name. Click Next.

9. You'll see a success message when you're finished setting up your account.

How to Create a PSN Account on a PS5

If you already have a PSN account on your PS4, you can log in using the same account on your PS5 console. If you don't have an account, you can create a new one directly from your PlayStation. Here's how:

1. Go to the Home screen and select Add User.
   

2. Select Get Started.

3. Read the user agreement and then, if you wish to proceed, press the box next to I Agree. Select Confirm.

4. Select Create an Account.

5. Over the next few steps, you're asked to fill out a variety of information. This includes your country/region, language preference, and birth date. Follow the on-screen prompts.

6. When asked, enter your email address and create a password for your PSN account. Press Next after doing so.

7. The next few steps ask about your name, location, and avatar. Complete the on-screen questions, pressing Next after each one.

   The name you pick is seen when you first power on your PlayStation.

8. Type the Online ID you want to use, then press Next.

   Don't use your real name! This ID is seen by other people in games, messages, and other areas.

9. On the privacy settings screen, select one of the available profiles. Or, choose Customize Settings to define things like who can see your real name and profile image in search results, within games, etc.

10. On the Data Collection screen, you're asked if Sony can use your usage data to improve its services. It's your choice: select Limited Data Only or Confirm and Continue.

11. When asked about personalized ads and purchase recommendations, pick either Disable and Continue or Enable and Continue.

12. Check I Agree on the Important Legal Documents screen, then select Confirm.

13. Check your email! Select the Verify Now link in the email from Sony to confirm your account.

14. On the Secure Your Account screen on your PS5, select whether you want to require a passcode to log in and whether your password should be required at checkout. Select OK.

15. Select Text Message or Authenticator App if you want to turn on two-factor authentication. Or, select Do This Later.

16. Optionally add a phone number to your account that Sony can use to help you reset your account if you can't access it for whatever reason. Choose Do This Later to skip this step.

17. Finally, select OK. You've made a PlayStation Network account!

Create PSN Account on a PS4

Here's how to make a PSN account on a PlayStation 4:

1. With the console on and the controller activated (press the PS button), select New User on the screen.

2. Select Create a User and then choose Accept on the User Agreement screen.

3. Select Next on the following screen.

4. Choose New to PlayStation Network? Create an Account.

5. Follow the on-screen instructions to submit your location information, email address, and a unique password, moving through the screens by selecting Next.

6. Choose an avatar. You can change this at any time in the future.

7. Enter the username you want to be identified as to other gamers. Also, fill out your name, but remember it'll be public. Press Next.

8. The next few screens let you set your privacy settings. You can pick Anyone, Friends of Friends, Friends Only, or No One for each specific activity.

9. Select Accept on the final screen to accept the terms of service and user agreement.

10. That's it! You now have a PSN account.
