    Smooth crossing!
Just got off the Santona from Santander to Portsmouth which is virtually brand new..and it shows! The sea was calm, but even so, the ship was smooth and quiet. No rattles or droning engines. Cabins were very clean and comfortable. The staff are friendly and efficient. Special thanks to Pierre the Chief Burser, who quickly sorted out a couple of small issues we had. He was chatty and friendly. The food was adequate and tasty...we ate in the Tapas Restaurant. All in all a really pleasant trip.

    ‘Cotentin’ Ferry
Used the re-introduced Le Havre crossing for June. The ferry is the ‘Cotentin’. No frills, compared to the other ferries. This boat has weird cabins, as we had booked a large 4-berth with window. What we got was 2 x 2 berths (bunks too) with an interconnecting en-suite. We were not aware of this when booking. Our outward bound journey was difficult as the door to the second cabin was locked, so we had to put up with the bunk beds which for us, a couple in their 70s, was not funny!! We have made a complaint. The return journey, we had the 2 cabins but we were obviously separated as we both wanted lower bunks. We will switch to the Caen crossing in future as the ferries are a better standard.

    Awful telephone experience, nice ferry
Good trip on Normandie. Awful beforehand when I had to ring them to alter my booking. It took three hours or so, they disconnect you after an hour, then you have to try again. I sometimes think this company just does not want competition.

Brittany ferries Rosslare to Bilbao, a great improvement 😃
The new Salamanca ferry was a real pleasure and especially compared to the previous Galicia. The staff were all lovely, the food in the Azul restaurant was really very good, both the evening meal and the substantial breakfast. The children loved all the interactive games and we all used the exercise equipment on the fab sun deck, from which we were lucky enough to see dolphins and even a Finn whale feeding in the distance! The TV in the cabins with a great range of options also helped pass the hours. Instead of seeing the trip over as an endurance test, I’ll be happy enough to drive aboard for the return trip!

With a little extra work the experience could be so much better.
Boarding at both ends was ok, although some of the time it seemed haphazard. I.e. security, the queueing lanes, embarkation and disembarkation and the Border Authorities. The staff onboard whilst parking were pleasant and efficient. Initially both ships appeared to be fresh and reasonably new. This is not quiet true. The Normandie is better kept than the Mont St Michel. The staff on the Normandie were friendlier and created a better atmosphere. On the Mont St Michel (our return ferry) the staff just did not appear interested, were sullen and were busy talking to each other rather than helping the customers, especially in the bar and the self-service cafe. The Normandie staff, in the restaurant, were lovely and very efficient, The worst part of both ships is the reserved seating facing the bow. It was very tired on the Mont St Michel. Poorly maintained and seemed to smell of lots of bodies. The room was noisy with crying young children and loud conversations. We felt it should have been a place to rest and relax. We got that wrong. A smile from all the staff and newer seating would have meant a higher rating.

A very long trip when you have to sit on chairs that are advertised as reclining chairs for upto 10-11 hours. No swimming pool. Cinemas children only movies. No slot machines. No pool tables or adult games. No Televisions on board that were turned on, just black screens no sound no video. Amorique is a boat that's not designed for foot passengers. It's a very boring boat with minimal for anyone to do on the night crossing. Children's games turned off an hour after departing Plymouth. I wouldn't travel with amorique unless you have a cabin.

    Well Recommended
I travel to France regularly, mainly on the Portsmouth to Caen route and I have always found it a good experience, the port staff and ship crew are always friendly and helpful, the ships and cabins are always very clean. The food is good and reasonably priced. Generally everything is well organised and I can strongly recommend Brittany Ferries.

A good experience travelling on Bretagne…
Me and my family travelled the route from Portsmouth to St Malo. We did both crossings (Night and Day). The Night crossing was a not the best of crossings due to the wind speed and overall motion of the boat. We booked 2x 2 birth cabins which were mostly clean and fresh. The only thing I’d point out about the cabins, is that, the vent that leads into the cabin and the one inside next to the door is full of dust and does need a good clean. The Day crossing was a good crossing but isn’t for those who have severe motion sickness. We did the 8h 50m crossing from St Malo to Portsmouth. There were plenty of opportunities to do things on board. However, these activities/food/restaurants/bars all cost extra. This time we had a single 4 - birth cabin. Again, it was the same on the way for cleanliness. Waiting times for getting onto the ship were longer at Portsmouth but we’re not excessive. The Ship departed Portsmouth on time and unfortunately, left St Malo 8 minutes late regardless of being fully loaded and ready for the ramp to be taken away. We were about 20 minutes early for arrival into both ports. Overall a very good experience! Except, Bretagne, she looks quite happy to sail, but does need some work done on her which would make the experience better. There is always a smell of something onboard Bretagne, especially in the air con.

A good option to travel from the UK to Normandy.
We crossed from Portsmouth to Caen in mid July. Boarding was efficient and organized. We boarded about an hour late but were able to make up most of the time though the night. We had a couple pints at the bar before heading off to sleep. The bar staff was busy and worked hard to take care of the large crowd. Beer selection was better than expected. We slept in a small 2 person cabin. The room was adequate and we were able to get some rest for our early morning arrival in Normandy. The first hour of travel was in rough waters but conditions settled down for the night.

    Santona Food overpriced and poor.
We returned to Portsmouth on Santana. Nice Cabins. The Santona restaurant was so disappointing! Two courses served within 20 minutes of arrival. So much for fine french dining! Both courses served lukewarm, obviously prepared in advance so you can be rushed out! Asparagus with poached egg - give me a break! Than Stifado - beef as dry as old boots. I decided not to bother with dessert to avoid disappointment. Then when I came to pay still water cost over 5 euros. We only paid 3.70 euros in a Spanish five star hotel! Absolute rip off! So much for their brand new ship! We went to Santander on their Pont Aven ship so, so much better food! Why do they think everyone wants to sit in a noisy bar? Why are there no quiet areas to be found? I won’t be travelling with Brittany Ferries again!

Before the pandemic I used to use Brittany Ferries about twice a year for many years and it was always a good experience. Not cheap, but still a fair price for what it is.

Now however, the whole thing became awful. First, I bought a Club Voyage membership thinking I'd get a good discount like before, but that discount is now negligible which means trips are very expensive overall. So I've immediately tried to cancel the membership - except it's impossible to call them. The line is simply busy, then it hangs up and you're not put on a queue or anything.

I've sent them many emails asking to cancel, to which they also don't answer. Eventually a month later I got an answer telling me that the 5 day cooling off period was expired and thus I would not get a full refund. This is terrible consumer service and probably not quite legal - making it impossible to cancel a membership then telling me you can't get a refund.

They've definitely lost a long term client here and I'll certainly won't recommend them to anyone anymore. Awful experience and customer service, almost a scam.

We were due to travel back from Spain on 16th April, Bilbao to Portsmouth. When the ferry was cancelled we had no option but to drive through Spain and France to return via eurotunnel to the UK.
As a result we incurred significant costs for additional fuel, tolls and train ticket. Brittany Ferries have flatly refused a cash refund which is illegal. The voucher offered will not pay my credit card bill for the additional costs incurred.
I fear their reputation will be in tatters due to the lack of customer care.

Anyone else having problems with getting a refund of price differences in ferry bookings with Brittany Ferries? Our original booking made in January for April was cancelled by the ferry company. We rebooked the April crossing for August we amended the booking again to April 2021 due to being furloughed. The price difference was about £185 we are still waiting for it to be refunded.

Like many we have multiple sailings which won’t happen, and hundreds of pounds will be tied up in vouchers valid for up to 2 years. Offers of a reduction in fares if we book by July are not attractive as what would happen If, because of our age, it’s not advisable for us to travel? Would we then be hit with cancellation fees? Appreciate BF is in a difficult position, but frankly feel this is a very one-sided solution - with little thought given to real problems many of us may face if we have to make ongoing changes to a very fluid situation.. Greater thought needs to be given by them to a much more comprehensive response if they want to hold onto our money for years. and retain a modicum of customer loyalty. A detailed explanation/ commitment to how they will deal with rebooking, and cancellations would be a good start, as would be an offer to join their Club Voyage club with no joining fees and waiving and/or reducing annual fees for existing members. The current response falls well short - and leaves one feeling they care more about their business than their customers.

We have used BF for many years, being regular travellers several times a year. BF has suddenly changed the booking system to three grades; Economy, Standard and Premium. The difference ?

Increase the price and pay more for less. Economy is pay 100% at booking and NO changes possible, Standard is pay 50% at booking and amendments cost £25, Premium is pay less and amendments foc BUT the price of each increases by about 20% over previous level.

The new booking site insists that must book as two single journeys, but cannot do that as the site cannot cope and simply removes data such as number of passengers, pets, vehicle type randomly.

Having recently been moved at 24 hours notice from St Malo to Cherbourg for journey I was peeved to be offered no recompense for the expense of the extra travel. BF seems determined to simply extract money.

The food in the "expensive" restaurant has degraded - Rosti recently were inedible and swimming in fat, fillet beef was inefible. Complaint got us nowhere. The starter buffet was not topped up, no prawns, little else other than boiled eggs. Complaining EVENTUALLY got a few prawns out but little else. No, we were not late eating but had gone there within 10 minutes of being boarded.

All in all the service has gone down and the price up.

Dear 'PenquinMHF', I am sorry to read of your disappointment with our service. For travel from 22 April 2020, we are offering a new range of ticket types aimed at allowing customers to choose the level of flexibility that suits their travel needs. Economy is our cheapest fare, which is aimed at those who are confident that their travel plans will not change, we do allow amendments, there is a fee of £20 to do this. Standard is our next fare, amendments are free for this type of ticket until two weeks before the date of the outward sailing, after this there is a £20 fee and then we have the Flexi fare where amendments are free up until 4 hours before outbound sailing. You can still book a return sailing as before. Please accept my apologies that your sailing was diverted to Cherbourg due to the inclement weather, we do usually offer a travel allowance in such circumstances so please do get in touch with our customer services team at customer.feedback@brittanyferries.com and they can look into this for you. Having been on the Post Aven 3 years ago for a trip to Santander I recall a fat better experience than we had on the recent Festive cruise to Honfleur. On the previous trip I had been told to go to the Lora restaurant as soon as we were on board to get reservations for dinner. This time I rushed up to their desk only to be greeted by a sign that said (We are not booking tables). Our 2 berth cabin had "Travelodge style" soap dispensers instead of the nice selection of packet toiletries and showers cap on the previous trip. There were only 2 small towels in the shower and we had to go to the info desk to get "extras". We booked the New Years dinner at £56 per head!!!!! and although the food was quite acceptable the service was chaotic. We had breakfast in the same restaurant on New years day and quite frankly it took us an hour and a half and several reminders to get food that was cold and a pot of tea when we had ordered coffee. I can only guess that cost cutting has resulted in turning a well appointed ship into an economy, self service budget hotel. We even had to pay extra for seeing a film in the cinema. Brittany ferries should not advertise this service in such a way that expectations are 4 star and the reality is 1 star.

Dear 'DST100952', I am sorry to hear that your Festive Cruise on board Pont-Aven was not as enjoyable as your previous trip to Santander on the ship. As part of our eco-responsibility program, and to reduce single-use plastics, we have replaced the plastic-wrapped single soaps in the cabins with eco-friendly shower gel dispensers. A towel per berth is provided in the cabins and should more be needed the team at the information desk are always happy to help. As the cruise is a special once a year trip the restaurant booking procedures are different from our usual sailings and I'm sorry that you were disappointed with the service that you received in Le Flora, I'm unsure if you spoke to the Restaurant Manager at the time but they would have been happy to assist if they were aware. Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback and we have made a note of it to help improve our service for the future. Kind regards Jane Customer Services Brittany Ferries

After getting caught in Portugal on Covid 19, 2 cancellations of ferries from Bilbao to Portsmouth, we finally got on to the first ferry out of Spain since the lockdown on Tuesday 30 June 2020.
After an 11 hour drive from The Algarve to Bilbao, it was nice to see Cap Finistere alongside at the dock. Also, the queue at the port was larger than I had expected. Nevertheless, the checking in process was simple and uncomplicated despite the Covid 19 restrictions.
We were guided onto the ship on to deck 5 and at the rear of the ship. We took the escalator to deck 7 and then walked the length of the ship to our cabin on deck 8. There was a lot of hustle and bustle with the staff still preparing cabins. Once inside the cabin, we did as instructed and stayed put. We had taken our own sandwiches and drinks so there was no need to use the limited facilities on board, together with social distancing, etc etc.
It was a smooth crossing for one with a tender stomach and not being a sailor. With the long overnight drive behind us, most of the voyage was spent sleeping.
Our arrival in Portsmouth has to be one of the easiest disembarkation I have encountered and maybe could be adopted when and if things get back to normal. The purser tannoyed instructions that passengers were to remain in their cabin until called. So we did and, when it came our turn to disembark, we reversed the walk back to deck 5 and arrived at the car without tripping over anybody else.
We were off the ship and transit through Border Control and Customs without any hitches within 45 minutes. The UK notification form I had to complete 48 hours before arriving in UK, wasn’t asked for.
I still recommend Brittany Ferries and would urge them to adopt the method of disembarkation as part of their normal routine. Far less ganging up on the stairs and lifts at midships.
Thank You Brittany Ferries. It wasn’t your fault concerning the cancellations and I would like to thank the CEO for his updates every 2-3 days, apart from one Friday when he didn’t update until the Saturday, causing some consternation and bad language from my other half.
We are home now and into our 14 day quarantine, although looking at some of the dipsticks in UK, I think we are less likely to be carrying anything than those not abiding by the rules. Maybe we are being quarantined against the rest of the UK as opposed to being carriers.

I would recommend Brittany Ferries if you are visiting Spain or Portugal. It’s a 12 run to the Algarve, instead of 2-3 days going via France.

Around 14th March; BF suddenly ‘temporarily suspended’ all crossings therefore leaving many booked travellers stranded. BF did not refund paid monies so customers could book elsewhere, even though their T&Cs say they will refund within 7 days.
On 16th March; BF released a limited number of available French ferry crossings. We duly quickly  booked the 21st March Caen- Portsmouth ferry crossing giving us 5 days to drive the 1200 or so miles from Mazarrón to Caen. During the journey it was purely by chance that I looked on the BF website to see that the ferry crossing had been cancelled. We did not even get an email or text cancelling. We had been booked for less than 24 hours. I believe this was a deliberate entrapment on behalf of Brittany Ferries as probably thousands of people were caught (paying for crossings) during this 24 hour period. Since then BF have determined to only offer vouchers not cash refund, going against their own T&Cs.
I will be persistently pursuing though.
BF have behaved disgracefully.....and continue to do so. Eurotunnel (they were fantastic) or P&O for us in future even if it does mean a longer drive.

Dear 'Anne W', I am sorry to read that your sailing was affected by the suspension of our services due to the COVID-19 pandemic. On 14 March we announced the suspension of our passenger services on three of our ships, Pont-Aven, Etretat and Kerry. Passenger services on our other seven vessels were not affected, and it intended that they would continue to sail, with restricted facilities and social distancing measures onboard due to the Coronavirus situation. As the far-reaching consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic became clear, we, unfortunately, had to suspend the rest of our passenger services on 16 March from 18 March onwards. Our teams in the ports began to telephone each customer who was due to travel within the next few days to let them know. All bookings were automatically cancelled and a refund credit note offered. If you are unhappy with the refund credit note, please get in touch with our team here https://www.brittany-ferries.co.uk/information/contact/form Kind regards Jane Customer Services Brittany Ferries

We cancelled our holiday before BF took our money because they increased our holiday cost when we moved it from June to september. Greedy, they should have been thankfull they kept the business, now they've lost ours completely.
We saw what terrible customer service they were providing by giving vouchers instead of refunds,
This is the second year in a row that our holidays been ruined.

My outbound crossing was cancelled due to ' bad weather in March'. Weather was absolutely beautiful. Don't lie to your passengers who paid for a service to use you when you wish to consolidate passengers on a single crossing because of lack of passengers on crossings.

I was stuck in another country with my car for 6 weeks post pandemic. So much so that I had to leave my car abroad, take a flight back home and return to work as I work for the NHS. I finally managed to return and collect my car at the end of July costing me an additional £1000 + in flights and taxis to airports etc and In total my inbound passage was cancelled by brittany ferries a total of 5 times... Why these clowns didn't close their booking system till Spain opened their boarders again is beyond me. Airlines and other travelling companies were smart enough to temporarily close down their booking systems and It wouldn't take a genius to work out that until the Spanish opened their boarders there would be no pax travelling.

They gave me a voucher for the equivalent of first cancellation with was circa £250 but by the end of it I ended up paying over £90 extra (£340 something in total) for a one way which I wasn't happy about. They gave me a voucher, if I didn't need to book a return I would definitely have done a chargeback to get my money back out of principle mainly.

Sort yourselves out brittany ferries or at least get better customer service employees.
