Great place to take your family.
My son and I wanted to kill some time before dinner so we went down the river walk. They had a lot going on. We enjoyed watching the zip liners and wishing we were skinny enough to do that. We enjoyed the children playing on the play ground equipment and watching them play in the area where the water shoots up in the air. We took a walk down by the river and felt safe at all times and it was good to see families out enjoying themselves

Great place for a peaceful walk
Beautiful atmosphere. Great place to walk with family or friends. We walked across the bridge from Georgia to Alabama. Stunning views of the water and waterfalls. Had a great time visiting here with my son who is in the Army.

    Scenic pathway
A scenic pathway that is very nice and a must see while in Columbus. You can bike or walk/run. It's a very long stretch so you can make it a short or long stretch. Best hotels along the walk are the Hotel Indigo (a little more "central") and City Mills hotel (this one is on the farther end). The Marriott is about 2 blocks in from the River Walk. There is a rock island you can go onto to enjoy the scenery or watch the kayakers/rafters navigate the rapids. Farther down the trail there is a cool bridge area. You can use this pathway to ride or walk to the Civil War Naval Museum (the distance depends on where you're starting from)

    Charming Stroll
We arrived in Columbus just early enough to visit before dark. The Riverwalk stretches quite a ways, but we were only able to see the portion near downtown, which is also a charming stroll. I would recommend budgeting at least a few hours to walk through the downtown and Riverwalk area.

Best Looking Riverwalk In State of GA!
Miles of a beautiful river and clean outdoor environment! Even more beautiful on site. The southern year round weather makes it so easy to plan to hangout. Have a hands free backpack of snacks and water.

    Alan Jackson Was Right!
Trail Series, Part 27 “Yeah, way down yonder on the Chattahoochee. Never knew how much that muddy water meant to me. But I learned how to swim and I learned who I was. A lot about livin’ and a little ‘bout love.” Alan Jackson I remember when Alan released this song in ‘93 and (having never visited the South to that point) I wondered if he invented some magical river called the “Chattahoochee” because it made for such a catchy guide vocal. Now that we’ve seen some of what Alan was singing about while on the “Chattahoochee River Walk” in Columbus, Georgia, it makes me wonder if the lyrics to his song could actually be semi-autobiographical. 🤷‍♂️ This trail runs parallel to the river and offers a consistent connection to it during your adventure. Walkers, runners, cyclists, and leashed dogs are all welcome here and from a safety standpoint I’d assign it a perfect score during daylight hours. Those with mobility challenges should not be dissuaded from enjoying it because it is well maintained, mostly flat, and easily accommodates wheelchairs, baby strollers, etc. While I typically elect to run most of the trails that we review, I quite enjoyed causally meandering along this one. And that’s…Henry’s Take. #chattahoochee #alanjackson #columbustrails

From Phenix City rode bikes across the pedestrian bridge to the trail, can go left and travel all the way to Ft Benning, can turn right and follow the river to the end of the path about 2.5-3 miles nice ride. On both side of the trail you are riding along the river. When you start heading over to Ft Benning you are away from the river. There is a Zip line that crosses the river if you wanted to try that. The river walk gets crowded on the weekends not bad during the week. Also when you cross the pedestrian bridge you can also catch the Dragonfly trail ( Fall Line Trace Trail) , This trail has 17 street crossing in the first 3 miles then one about every 1/2 mile after that.

I really enjoyed walking on the waterfront. There were many great viewpoints of the rapids and those individuals brave enough to ride them. One could also stick his or her hands into the water. The walkway was well-maintained with a great path for walkers, bikers, and joggers. There was much greenery and there were great panoramas of nearby Phenix City, Alabama. I even crossed the bridge to walk alongside the Phenix City promenade near Troy University. One could also admire the nice shops and restaurants alongside Broadway; there were also many nice houses with big magnolias. There was plenty of street parking with some hourly restrictions during the weekdays.

A number of communities have built some variant of a Riverwalk in the last 20 / 50 years. This one apparently dates from the early 90s. The part we explored during our trip was the segment nearest to downtown and a segment a bit north of there.

You can access this from a number of streets / businesses downtown. There are parking garages within a few blocks of it, so it is an easy walk. At that point, though, the path is about 2 stories below street level, so be prepared for stairs. At other points, it is on the same level with streets / parking.

The downtown section is the most interesting (that we saw) as it showcases the river rapids and you can watch people in kayaks and rafts navigating them. There is even a short bridge out to a small island for the best viewing. Some people set up there with cameras to get action shots, in fact. All this is within the two or three hundred yard stretch just west of the heart of downtown.

Our hotel adjoined the Riverwalk also, so we earlier explored it a bit from that point (maybe a mile north of downtown) heading south (maybe 3/4 of a mile). This part passes college campuses and businesses, but there is not much commercial along here (like restaurants, etc.). There is a connection to a pedestrian bridge over to the west bank of the river. There appeared to be one or more hotels on that side, so it provides convenient access for people staying over there to access busier areas.

We saw mostly foot traffic, with the occasional cyclists and whatever you call those mono-wheel electric skateboard things (plus some normal skateboards). Maybe 10% of people brought dogs as well.

If you are visiting or staying in Columbus, the downtown segment is definitely worth checking out.

This is a really great walk where you have excellent views of the river, folks whitewater rafting or tubing, historic sites, the old mill power plant and lots of great trees. Food is available and there are companies you can do the waterworks. Slight up and down grades make is a good workout for all abilities or riding bikes. The historic area are only block of two away. There is a great splash park and playground for younger ones.

Really well done, this walking trail walks alongside a roaring river, past historical areas, near great eateries and shopping, through meeting venues, museums, and sporting venues, as well as parks. Just can’t say enough about this stunning feature of the Columbus landscape. I would recommend visiting the visitor center first and picking up a map. As an avid geocacher, they had a great little program where you could get a free challenge coming and learn all of the little historical things that are hidden from view - like walking past a shipwreck of a sorghum boat, which led to decades of fantastic fishing in this area. You’d never know about this otherwise - and that is just one of dozens of little local stories on this amazingly beautiful path. Highly recommend!

We did this walk a few hours before we went river rafting, A beautiful view. There were people biking, walking their dogs and roller blading on the walk. we could have walked for a lot longer, but it was very hot and no shade around.

We did 20 miles today going south from the city to the base and it was just gorgeous. It wasn’t crowded at all even though it’s a Saturday. The views are breathtaking, the paved surface is perfect for an outing, well-maintained and spectacular views of the river

What a fantastic job Columbus has done with this beautiful riverwalk. One of the best I’ve seen. It’s bustling with activity with people walking and running, rafting, fishing, and even zip lining over the Chattahoochee. Very much enjoyed spending time there.
