Having made quite a career out of telling people what he thinks about them, it appears that Simon Cowell will once again be deciding who has The X Factor, as the reality competition makes its way back to the States — possibly on NBC.
“I have a saying in life that’s ‘Always go where you’ve got the best invitation,’ and NBC has offered us to make the show here,” Cowell shared with The Sun earlier this week while out promoting NBC’s AGT: All Stars.
Cowell may have been speaking out of turn, however, seeing as Vulture’s Joseph Adalian hears that while NBC is intersted in reviving The X Factor, a deal is not yet done. (Sources have since told TVLine same.)
Created by Cowell, The X Factor debuted across the pond in September 2004 and ran for 15 seasons, through December 2018. Following the end of its UK run, two spin-offs followed in its stead: The X Factor: Celebrity and The X Factor: The Band.
The Stateside version of The X Factor launched in September 2011 — midway through the UK series’ run — on Fox, which of course had been home to Cowell’s American Idol. The U.S. judging panel at first was comprised of Cowell, fellow Idol alum Paula Abdul, Cheryl Cole and L.A. Reid, though Nicole Scherzinger soon replaced Cole on the dais. Subsequent judges included Demi Lovato and Britney Spears, and Kelly Rowland and Paulina Rubio.
Season 1 of Fox’s X Factor averaged 11 million total viewers and a 3.6 demo rating (in Live+Same Day numbers). Season 2 slipped to 8.1 mil and a 2.9, while Season 3 mustered just 5.6 mil and a 1.6.
In February 2014, Cowell decided to return to the UK version, after which Fox announced the U.S. incarnation’s cancellation.
Is The X Factor something that you feel has been missing from your diet of musical reality competitions?
I enjoyed the xfactor more than the voice but do we really need another singing show? Depending on the format and who the judges are I may watch.
I really enjoyed this show and format, it just suffered from bad hosts (CK) and some annoying judges. With the right casting this could be great.
I really enjoyed Khloe tbh.
I’d love to see X Factor return! But, please, please, PLEASE, drop the sob stories (that goes for ALL reality shows). We all have our issues.
I’m assuming the voice will go to one cycle a tv season. They almost did that a few years back when nbc and abc were battling for American idol. I hope for the judges we can get Simon Cowell, reba, Jennifer lopez and Shawn Mendes.
They Voice legit ran one cycle this year. They did not run a Spring cycle for 2022.
NBC’ s The Voice does not need to air twice a year. They should take a break. It is the only talent show airing twice a year.
Meanwhile, like The Voice the X Factor does not have age restrictions that American Idol has which Simon doesn’t like. Also, American Idol doesn’t allow groups which The Voice and X Factor do.
The only thing I can remember about the USA show was Simon fired Cheryl Cole because he thought ‘mericans couldn’t understand her because of the English accent. I prefer Americas Got Talent. Singing shows are not exciting.
Renew American Song Contest instead. :)
Not unless they’re canceling The Voice. Neither show has created stars in the USA. And it’s similar format with coaches. And I definitely don’t want to see Simon on tv
Several now successful singers got their exposure from appearing on X Factor US.
I wouldn’t say several. Fifth harmony is the most successful followed by Bea Miller but who else really?
Camila Cabello. Normani. Kane Brown.
The X Factor USA with or without Simon Cowell on the judging panel doesn’t matter. I understand.
If it’s an excuse for Camila Cabello to have a regular judging gig, then I’m afraid I’ll have to rejoin this lie of a show that is really just there to launch a group in third place
They should bring Cheryl Cole and a bunch of UK judges to differentiate from the other thousand singing shows. I’d tune in
I think we should move away from singing competition shows. Have any of the recent winners from The Voice or American Idol have successful careers once off the show?!? No.
I really miss the X factor ..better than any others. Was super impressed with Louis Tomlinson. He was interesting, fun n terrific!! Would love for him to come back too!!
