  I grew up watching this film. As a child, I loved it because it made me laugh - which is strange, because the majority of the jokes are not jokes a child would (or should) get. As an adult, after leaving Italy at the age of 17, it became my ultimate nostalgia film. I listen to the soundtrack, and I weep. I listen to the initial monologue, and I weep. I watch the beautiful Tuscany landscapes, and I weep. I look at what happens in that tiny Italian rural town, I am reminded of my own tiny Italian rural town and of my childhood, and I weep. I know it is far from perfect, I know many jokes are sexist and they did not age well, I know Leonardo Pieraccioni mostly made mediocre or just plain terrible films in the past 20 years, but this... This is something else. Forever one of my ultimate comfort movies.
