The school was good overall, no school is perfect. There could be more college readiness since freshmen year and far more reality being put in place. For ex: about scholarships and maintaining grades
I have a love hate relationship with this school. It is very full of culture because of its diversity. We have clubs that administer to this diversity, and hold events that celebrate different cultures. There is always something going on, although it’s hard know about these thing because they lack communication. This is Something they definitely need to work on. As for academics, we have a lot of classes and opportunities for people, this includes AP and honors classes and they also offer college classes as-well. They’re are various after school programs and sports extracurriculars. They are so many options it is hard for a person not to find what they are interested in. Along with academics I’ve learned more about life from the people in this school. Overall I fully recommend this school to any 8th grader. However, When I first came there were various stabbings but after that period we haven’t had such an event happen again. I believe they have made an effort to make the school safer.
I know a lot of people in my grade and everyone talks about how much this school is trash and how they want to leave. The teachers don’t really care about you and due to covid, things like the pool, locker rooms, and even the elevators are shut down. The education here is also mediocre, most teachers burnt out from teaching here so long that they don’t even bother teaching. Most students just spend most of their time in class on their phones and no one would bother to stop them. The school’s diversity is just most afro latinos and very few of two other races. Me personally, I have never felt safe. Most staff would turn a blind eye to you if you aren’t on a friend to friend basis with them. The clubs here aren’t that good either, considering its the students that make them bad. If you aren’t already friends with the club members, you’ll just be outcasted and ignored.
Overall, Truman has been a horrible school for me and I wouldn’t really recommend coming.
