Such an over reaction.
The beatdown on the beach was so uncalled for. Kid was just standing there and
KainoaKala Alexander pulls him in and takes him down. Then breaking the board - whatever for? I don't know who's the bigger twat,KainoaKala Alexander, the clowns cheering him on, the dweebs focused on filming/watching while the kid gets his face caved in completely unprovoked, or the kooks taking pictures/filming him while he's sitting on the beach bloodied and processing what just happened. It makes a lot more sense with context.
Kainoa McGee is a cool guy. He looks kinda intimidating, but he's crazy friendly and warm and welcoming.
He also works as a NS lifeguard and risks his own life to save others for about $35K a year. He's the lifeguard in this well known picture.
Swinging on a lifeguard is a surefire way to catch a well-deserved ass-beating on the North Shore. Because, again, they risk their lives to save others while barely earning enough to survive.
Beach beat down was administered by kala Alexander. Bodyboard guy was Kainoa McGee.
fixed
It's clear you've never been to Hawaii then
Here in my town, we have maritime police. If this were to happen, the police would get called, and they would remove the guy.
I think this is just a sad situation for everybody. That guy that hit him, and then broke his board, doesn't earn my respect, and honestly he should be fined. Do we live with rules or not?
People in here supporting the beating of an autistic kid because he paddled out at the wrong spot.
What a fuckin joke.
If you think this shit is "cool" then fuck you, i hope i see your ass gettin beat to a pulp for paddling out at the wrong spot, ill even film it for you so you can see how "cool" it is when its you getting your jaw deattachted.
Directtodvd
Maybe someone can verify, but I remember hearing this kid is on the spectrum
Yeah this kid had autism. Makes me cringe watching all the surfer bros support this violence against a disabled person. A low point for our sport.
This makes me so angry. Fuck every single clown in this video.
Where’d you find that out at? Genuinely curious, since if true, that’s terrible. But there’s nothing on the internet about this dude being autistic.
You sure you didn’t see a YouTube comment that was something like “you’d have to be autistic to think you could take on Kainoa McGee” ?
Fuck violence in surfing. Fuck for-profit competitions that exclude people from using a shared public space.
It was bullshit last winter when they shut down steamer lane for 5 days in a row for some stupid high school contest
It’s literally like one day for a contest this small. Just go to literally any other world class spot on the NS, really not that big of a deal. I’m sure the dude in question was being a prick and deserved the beating he was given.
This may seem glib but would you get mad if I burned you? What gives you the right to exclude me from a wave you’re on if you don’t think a contest organizer should have the right to exclude non participants?
People lose their shit at this but etiquette/one person per wave is textbook western style property rights. Property ownership is described as a bundle of certain rights like the right to possess and the right to exclude others. Riding a wave is possessing it, and etiquette rules that dictate one person per wave is directly analogous to the right to exclude others from property.
Guy on the jet ski not doing shit to help the potential drowning....
Hockey rules
The potential drowner Kainoa is or was a north shore lifeguard. I don’t think either of them would have drowned
Can anyone say jail time / lawsuit ?
This was a long time ago
The guy totally deserved a beat down.
Edit: why the downvotes? There was a contest on. He got warned repeatedly to leave. He tries to fight the guy who makes him leave. He still doesn’t leave after taking a beating in the water. He takes another beating, still won’t leave.
This guy obviously got what he deserved. He could’ve gone out anywhere else to the multiple world class waves within a quick drive where there wasn’t a contest but decided he wanted to be a moron/tough guy and got taught a lesson.
"Why the downvotes"
Cause normal people dont support beating up an autistic child for paddling out at the wrong spot.
Fuck this shit. Holding this kind of behavior on a pedestal is why you have kids on wavestorms with 3 months of experience shitting on some of the best local waterman around just because they are on a spung for the day
Any evidence that the kid was autistic?
Also many people who are high functioning autistic can follow instructions and understand situations just as well as their neurotypical peers
The fight happened 20 years ago and no one remembers who the white guy was. u/Downfromhere1 made it up. Because people love to bitch and moan about the big mean Hawaiians.
The idiot took a swing at Kainoa McGee. The guy is a longtime NS lifeguard and has saved countless lives. Attacking him gets you an ass beating.
Do you know he is a full grown man? and not an autistic child? Are autistic children just running around with surfboards by themselves? Paddling out to a contest that he was not a competitor in? I’m not in support of physical Violence, but hearing one person say he’s autistic doesn’t mean shit to me. He’s still a dumbass who got his face punched in for being a dumbass.
Haoles, most don't understand localism mentalities let alone Hawaiian localism.
I’m as white as it gets and not a particularly good surfer (especially 5 or so years ago when my brother lived on Oahu). I always had the time of my life and never had a single issue in the water out there because I showed basic respect and etiquette.
Not that I’m some expert, but from my experience you’d have to be sooooo insanely out of line to get a response like this guy got
Ehhh. I lived in Hawaii for 9 years and it was mostly good. But I had locals fuck with me a few times when I hadn't done anything. Got vibed out super hard at Maili Point once for the color of my skin.
So respect and etiquette works most of the time, but not always.
Seriously. It's not that hard, be respectful, don't be a fuckwit, and you won't have someone paddling out to kick your ass. Dude in the video deserved it.
The police would side with the locals anyway.
Fat chance, that boy has money if he’s there on vacation. Locals or not, that’s assault.
That’s not how I’ve seen it work after witnessing a fight in Honolulu.
Maybe 20 years ago. Today any Oahu county judge is going to come down hard on quinoa’s boy on the beach.
Kala Alexander should be in jail. What a clown.

Well that changes everything, they should put that in the video maybe?
Or maybe take a step back when you watch a video. Or when you watch violence out of context don't come to judgement so quickly.
Why, my white privilege and elitist attitude over these island savages will protect me.....NOT.
Stand and trade. Don’t ground and pound a random unless you’re a massive pussy.
