Show is Great, Commercials are bad
Is it just me, or are the Fontane sisters rolling their eyes during the opening commercial?
Couldn't blame them if they did; Chesterfield always seems to have the worst commercials. Regardless of how you feel on smoking, these are simply bad commercials.
But luckily, the commercials only make up a small part of this program.
The first song is a novelty sung by Perry Como and the female vocal group. It is during this number we get absolute proof the singing is live; well, good enough proof for now.
We then get a really scary Chesterfield commercial. Those who are not offended will simply be bored stiff.
This luckily is brief and is followed by a performance of that popular religious standard "Crying in the Chapel". Written by Artie Glenn (source: Wikipedia), This great song has been a hit for several artists. In 1965, it gave Elvis Presley a Top 5 pop hit and a #1 Easy Listening chart hit. Perry Como may not be Elvis, but his version is still pretty good.
Then we get a instrumental segment with some dancers, well, dancing. Is that the "Dragnet" theme? The set wobbles, but it is sorta cool and moderately amusing.
Then comes another inane Chesterfield ad. Compared with the ads of Lucky Strike or Phillip Morris, this commercial stinks. Again, it is mercifully short.
This is followed by slow vocal song sung by Perry. It is good, old-style pop music.
I am glad somebody uploaded this. The music is excellent and the picture and sound are decent. The recording also features a CBS logo, a pathetic commercial for "Fatima cigarettes" (the people involved should have changed advertising agency judging by these commercials), and a plug for the following show.
