Rainbow Alphabet Matching Game
My preschooler loves activities like this and we have printed a set for her class to play with. They have been working on letters all year and most of her friends are ready to use their alphabet knowledge to play this game! And for those who still need help with uppercase and lowercase letters, playing in pairs can be a fun way to build confidence.
This printable activity includes 26 rainbows. At each end of the rainbow, there is an uppercase and lowercase letter. Match the uppercase letter to the lowercase letter and complete the rainbow!
To prep, simply print the rainbow letter matching activity (download below) on cardstock. Cut the rainbow cards out after laminating to save a step and help keep the game pieces from getting ripped or damaged!
Ways to Play!
With this super fun activity, preschoolers and kindergarteners can practice alphabet recognition and letter matching in a few different ways!
With one set of printable rainbows, mix up the pieces, and match all 26 rainbows back together. If 26 rainbows are too many at first, choose just a few letters to play with. When confidence with letter recognition builds, add more letter rainbows to the game!
Another fun option is to use one set of rainbows as a memory game. Cut the rainbow pieces apart and turn them over. Flip 2 cards over at a time, trying to find the matching uppercase and lowercase letters. Complete a rainbow and pick again! This can be played alone or in a group in the classroom.
For younger preschoolers who are not ready to match the rainbows on their own yet, print 2 sets of the rainbows. Cut only ONE set apart. Match the cards that are cut to the second set of rainbows to practice letter recognition!
For example, they will match uppercase letters to uppercase letters, or lowercase to lowercase to work on simply identifying letters that are the same.
Your kids are sure to love strengthening important literacy skills with this hands-on letter matching game!
