In What Was He Thinking??, Rebecca interviews a range of men from high-profile types to the guys next door, men that every woman can relate to. Usually I like Rebecca St James books but so far in reading this book I just find the responses of the guys kind of overwhelming and a little offensive. So many care so much about appearance. Should that really be number one for a Christian? That is one thing that isn't such a priority for me. Many people are attractive to me. God made most women beautiful and most men have something handsome about them. What I care about is having a similar heart and call in life, loving each other. And a guy who gives a girl who asks a number a wrong number that is just rude. I would love if a guy asked for my number. Sometimes it can be hard to meet a guy especially in a small town. It would have been nice if things were presented differently. These are issues that are in some areas very specific to guys and girls about who they want and just general things you should strive for which I think should have been more the priority in this book. And guys who say they don't care about dress are lying. There has to be some interest in how a girl is dressing or she will just be passed over. And guys should pay for the date because most guys will play the role of provider to a greater degree than the girl hes dating. If a girl offers to pay something that should be considered a bonus. Just my opinions so far.

Let me preface this by saying that I love the music that Rebecca St. James creates and have met her in person in concerts on two occasions and she's lovely. I purchased this book believing that it would contain wisdom, clear insight and views from many different men. Instead, it contains views and opinions from only 16 gentlemen and they are all personal friends and/or family of the author. In other words, they're going to mirror her personal views for the most part, with little variation. I also had expectations that the book would offer clear direction (it doesn't) and possibly even contain some stories of the author's personal dating experiences (it does, but very vague) and possibly even contain the story of how she met and eventually married her husband (it doesn't). I did purchase this book at a discount from the retail price, but I'm very disappointed. Having met her, I'm sure this wasn't her motive, but the book appears to be a grab for money and something that is being sold purely on the good name of Rebecca St. James and not much else. There are many other, more in depth, more direct, and more productive books than this one that cover this topic. Respectfully, I believe that the author should stick to producing music and all that is entailed with that enterprise and not attempt to tackle the written word.

I really like this book because it offers the genuine perspectives of men who are married and single on marriage and relationships. But I think the thing that is extremely encouraging is that Rebecca St. James didn't just choose random guys to interview; she sought the opinions and perspectives of men who truly love the Lord, who are really doing their best to keep their hearts aligned with Christ. I believe that it can be hard especially as a woman, to trust God for your future spouse because it seems like men these days really aren't so devoted to their walk. But this book showed me that there really are men out there who are seeking God with their hearts and who are looking for women who are doing the same. It's very encouraging to know that waiting on God is the right thing to do and only allows Him to prove His faithfulness all the more.

I really did not like this book very much. I am a big RSJ fan and was very excited to read this book. However, there really is not that much to the book. Instead of actually writing anything original, she just basically compiled all of the answers her friends gave her into a book. Because of this, the book maintains an aimless quality throughout the entire narrative... you keep waiting for purpose of everything she is telling you to emerge, but it never does. It also should be noted that this book is primarily written about the thoughts of men about "dating," specifically-- rather than actually about relationships. Again, I think this book attempted to discuss some very beneficial topics, but ultimately failed to pack a punch because the purpose of all of this "helpful" information shared is never analyzed in a useful way.

I think its great that you get a lot of different point of views from a lot of different guys. I love how it is all based on the biblical view of dating and marriage. Very good for older teenage girls and those who are single waiting for the right one.

All preteens, and older, will benefit from great information in this book, especially girls but not just girls. I bought three copies for three families and I am reading it on my Kindle. The discussions are based on Christian living and teachings. Our children need to know that the present day dating practice taught by media as acceptable and epidemic lack of teaching by parents is not the way it has to be.

No disrespect to Rebecca St James, but I was worried that I book would be too American for an English reader, or that the book would be relevant to teenagers only. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that the book isn't too American and is highly relevant for single girls in their twenties and thirties. This book would be helpful for young girls who are new to the dating world and need some good guidelines. As a 22 year old in a serious relationship, not all of the book was relevant for me, but there were still some interesting insights into the male mind that have helped me understand my guy a little better.

The book was slightly annoyingly structured and not as well written as some others by St. James, also it does repeat itself at times. I wish it had been a little more thought-provoking.

All in all though, I'd say it is worth buying for a young girl who wants to understand guys and prepare herself for dating.

I enjoyed this book a lot. The further you read on, the better it gets. It's full of different perspectives from guys on relationships etc, and I appreciated the fact that it didn't depict just "one type of guy's" thoughts, they were more broad. There were a few really great things I took away from this book, and I recommend giving it a read for sure if you're frustrated with your singleness or questioning that part of your life in any way. Even if you just need a reminder of things you already know, give it a read!
