I have a fondness for Ventura College overall. However, I lost an entire semester when my appendix ruptured in September 2023. This setback was challenging as I fell behind in school, being in and out of the hospital for four months. It wasn't until November 7th, 2023, that my appendix was finally removed, resulting in my classes being dropped with an EW, which stands for excused withdrawal. This was difficult because I had been ahead, but the incident caused me to fall behind. So, while it's technically my second year, it feels like my first since I missed a full semester due to appendicitis.
I attend VC as a student, but I also work at VC in the EAC office. Ventura College provides amazing resources for students. However, it is really complicated to do anything. I assist students with registering for classes all the time and it is very confusing. They recently changed the DegreeWorks program and it is also confusing. There are a lot of student activities, but I never hear of them until they are already happening and I am signed up for the newsletter. In addition, there are quite a few professors that aren't very good.
Being at Ventura College I got to experience the college life at an affordable price and kick start my college journey. I love how the classes were smaller, and therefore students are able to get to know one another and have a better connection with their professors. Ventura College offers so many helpful opportunities, such as free tutoring, access to computers and a library were you can rent textbooks and other materials, and even a food pantry where you can get groceries. Ventura College shows how they care about their students, and the campus life overall is an amazing experience.
