Not only is Mckenna Grace one of the most accomplished young actors working right now, but she has already started to dip her toes into other avenues. Most people might be familiar with her music career, and she has contributed original songs to the soundtracks of both Ghostbusters: Afterlife and Paw Patrol: The Mighty Movie, movies in which Mckenna Grace starred. She has even co-directed three of her own music videos. One thing people might not know is that she actually co-wrote the screenplay for the Lifetime Original movie The Bad Seed Returns — a follow-up to her 2018 film The Bad Seed — with her father during the COVID-19 pandemic. The loose remake of the classic Mervyn LeRoy film and William March novel earned her further accolades.

If co-writing a screenplay before you are 18 isn't impressive on its own merits, there is also the fact that The Bad Seed Returns marked the debut film of Grace's production company, Beautiful Ghost Productions. Obviously, one would assume that the name references her role in the Ghostbusters franchise, but that isn't the case. That is a happy coincidence, but the true origins actually stem from an entirely different place — one universally less beloved film. Through blushing laughter and awesome honesty, Grace explained to MovieWeb:

"I've never told anybody this before and it's so stupid. It's so dumb. I got it — I'm a really big fan of Cats [...] That was one of the songs in Cats, not in the original, but in the movie, and I thought that it had a beautiful sentiment, and I thought that it was cool. Ghosts are a big part of my career. I was like 12 whenever I made the company. It's great, you know, and I stand by that choice, and I love Cats, and I love Beautiful Ghost Productions."

Beautiful Ghosts Productions and the One Brave Person Who Liked Cats

The fact that Grace's production company, Beautiful Ghost Productions, shares its namesake with a song from what is often seen as a terrible movie speaks to the power of film. It shows that even after a negative reaction, one's work can still have a positive impact. If it can reach one person, that matters. Cats might not be a 'good' film by any typical metric, but its existence led to the creation of a song that meant enough to Grace that it became the name of her production company. And if Grace's career and company goes on as long as many anticipate, it will be more than a net positive.

Grace smiled and said half-jokingly:

I'm so happy to have finally gotten it out, I feel like there's just a weight off of my shoulders now that it's finally out there.

Grace's recent film, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, is now available on home media and digital platforms for rent or purchase. She'll be starring opposite Diane Lane, Zoey Deutch, and Kyle Chandler in the upcoming film Anniversary, among with multiple other projects in the works. Hopefully, Beautiful Ghost has some in the pipeline, too.
