Post Malone's Net Worth Is Impressive—Here's How the 'Rockstar' Made His Riches
Post Malone's net worth is staggering—not that you'd necessarily be able to tell he's wealthy by looking at him. The singer-rapper's signature style is low-key, save for his grills and tattoos. His success in streaming, touring and brand endorsements, plus his sense of humor and relatable and self-effacing nature, have contributed to his cash flow in a big way.

How did Post Malone become famous?
Post Malone was born Austin Richard Post on July 4, 1995 in Syracuse, New York, where he lived until he was 10 years old, at which point he moved to Grapevine, Texas, where his father worked for the Dallas Cowboys. He was inspired to learn to play guitar from playing Guitar Hero when he was a teenager, and his mother bought him his first guitar the following Christmas. He taught himself the ins and outs of the instrument via YouTube videos, which he admitted didn't always go well.
"It took a long time, because I used to suck. I was really bad," he told The Huffington Post. "You gotta start somewhere. You just gotta stick with it, because a lot of people wanna give up whenever they first start something." He picked out the name "Post Malone" from a rap name generator. He enrolled in Tarrant County College in Texas but left and moved to Los Angeles, where he lived with professional streamer and longtime friend Jason Probst. He and Probst began streaming Minecraft sessions, in which he would sometimes perform covers.
In 2015, Post Malone released "White Iverson" on Soundcloud, where it became a hit after receiving praise from hip-hop bigwigs including Wiz Khalifa and the late Mac Miller. The streaming success led to Post Malone's signing with Republic Records. Justin Bieber picked up Post Malone as his opening act and even sang on his 2016 debut album Stoney.
Post Malone released Beerbongs & Bentleys in April 2018, buoyed by the massive success of "Rockstar" and "Psycho." The album was certified platinum in just four days and spawned three top 10 songs and six top 20 songs. Later that year, he released "Sunflower" featuring Swae Lee for the film Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse. The song spent over eight months in the top 10 and went eight-times Platinum in the United States.
In 2019, Post Malone released Hollywood's Bleeding. It debuted at No. 1 and sold 489,000 copies within its first week of release.

Post Malone Writes His Own Music—And He Does It Masterfully
As his own principal songwriter, Post Malone is able to keep more of his royalties than artists who employ others to write their material. That comes in handy when you've sold 80 million records and have had, to date, eight tracks certified Diamond. Additionally, experts have claimed that Post Malone's writing style is almost specifically designed to draw listeners in.
"Post Malone's songwriting style is a bit repetitive," Berklee College of Music songwriting professor Kareem Clarke explained to Vice. "We've got a lot of sixteenth note rhythms that'll maybe repeat for three times and then go into a nice ending phrase." He added, "Even if it's the first time you’re hearing the song, you can anticipate the fact that there is going to be that down, on-the-one phrase. It makes it easier for the normal listener to latch on to that and remember it and know what’s about to come next." Clarke also said that opening a song with the hook, like Post Malone does with "Better Now," draws listeners in and encourages them to stream his songs for at least the opening 30 seconds.
Fellow Berklee professor Brian "Raydar" Ellis explained that Post Malone's limited vocal range actually works to his advantage as well because it's easy to sing along to even if you aren't, say, a Mariah Carey type. "People find that Post's music is easy to sing along to because he doesn't really stray far from the root of the song. The notes that he sings are what we call diatonic, which means they're in the scale degree of what he's singing." Ellis compared Post Malone's track "Rockstar" to one like "Love on Top" by Beyonce, which hits a lot more varied notes within its running time.
Whether or not Post Malone's formula for hits is deliberate, one thing is for sure: It works.

He Broke Streaming and Chart Records
In May 2018, Post Malone broke the record for the most simultaneous top 20 songs in the Billboard Hot 100 with nine songs in the top 20—smashing the record previously held by The Beatles and J. Cole, who were tied at six each. In August 2018, Rolling Stone reported that Post Malone's album Stoney hit 77 weeks on the Billboard 200 chart, shattering a 34-year record previously held by Michael Jackson's Thriller. While neither was a record, Post Malone's Beerbongs & Bentleys charted every single of its songs on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2018, and he did the same in September 2019 with Hollywood's Bleeding. Hollywood's Bleeding also was the fifth-highest streaming record ever for a debut week.

How Else Does Post Malone Make His Money?
Aside from his album sales and royalties, Post Malone makes big bucks in other areas of the business. Forbes reports he grosses $500,000 per concert, and the artist's Posty Fest—which featured artists including Meek Mill, Pharrell, Jaden Smith and Rae Sremmurd—sold out before the lineup was even announced. Additionally, Post Malone has sponsorships with Bud Light, HyperX and True Religion. In 2018, it was announced that Post Malone was in the works to start his own record label and may also make a movie.
In May 2019, TMZ reported that Post Malone was also embarking on a non-musical venture: the marijuana business. His company, Shaboink, sells its own strain of cannabis, plus vaporizers and other merchandise.

He Feels Pressured to Match His Previous Successes
In September 2017, Post Malone told Billboard that after "Rockstar" debuted at No. 2 on the Hot 100, he was shocked and wanted to continue the hot streak he had starting with "White Iverson" in 2015. "I guess as an artist, it's never really enough," he admitted. "You always wanna strive to get bigger and better and push the limits of what you can actually do. I guess I just want to keep on growing and one day be the biggest artist in the world, and just do my best to put out the best music that I can. The Apple streaming record actually really surprised me, so I'm hoping for the next one, I can beat my own record. I just want to keep kicking a**, man. There's a lot of pressure to make the best music and I just want to make music that I can relate to and that my fans can relate to at the same time."
He's a Big Spender
Post Malone makes big money—and he spends it, too. He confessed to Rolling Stone that before he was famous, he worked in a chicken joint and blew $800 of his hard-earned money on Versace slippers. Since becoming famous, well, his habits haven't changed much: He showed the magazine his Rolls Royce Wraith and a pair of $1,700 slippers. After his Wraith was T-boned by a Kia, he upgraded to a $420,000 Phantom. He also owns a Lamborghini and a souped up Ford Explorer for which he originally paid $1,700.
In October 2019, Post Malone made it rain with $50,000 worth of singles at a nightclub appearance; in April 2017, TMZ reported that he spent $8,000 just on Popeye's biscuits, and in October 2018, it was revealed Post Malone dropped a whopping $40,000 on Postmates in just a year, usually getting eats delivered to him while he's on tour. He also owns a sprawling $3 million mansion outside of Salt Lake City, Utah.
Posty is also a betting man: He paid rapper YG a whopping $20,000 after losing a bet on a Dallas Cowboys game against the St. Louis Rams in the NFL playoffs.
