Emmylou Harris – Elite Hotel

This pressing sounds great and the vinyl is super quiet. The pictures, both front and back, are quite blurred and darkened compared with the original. Emmylou has all her fingers in this one.

On my Dutch pressing the finger is not airbrushed out.

Standout track by far is 'til I can gain control again' which also features Linda ronstadt on backing vocals and has the most wonderful fade out. Ivo from of 4ad also selected it as a cover on a this mortal coil lp

first version has her finger poking out, 2nd version they erased the finger on cover pic.

Not Emmylou's best (see: Pieces of the Sky, Luxury Liner et al.), but a respectable debut. My main complaint is that this repressing is pretty lousy; relatively thin with mild distortion in the highs even after a thorough cleaning and inspection. Pass this one for an original if possible.

I've got this Dutch pressing with on both side A and side B the songs that are listed to side B. The first six songs aren't on my (mis)pressing.

There are two different songs entitled "Wheels". The first was an instrumental single released in 1961 by a group called The String-A-Longs, and was produced by Norman Petty. There is some controversy as to who actually composed the song, Richard Stevens and Jimmy Torres of the group, or Norman Petty. The story can be found at http://www.rockabilly.nl/references/messages/string-a-longs.htm. In any case, the 1961 "Wheels" has nothing whatever to do with the song of the same name composed by Chris Hillman and Gram Parsons which first appeared on the album "The Gilded Palace of Sin" by the Flying Burrito Brothers in 1969. How the 1969 "Wheels" ended up being credited to Norman Petty on the "Elite Hotel" album is anybody's guess. Clearly it is an error and may add some value to the album.
