      Critics Consensus

Though it at times buckles under the emotional weight of its source material, All The Bright Place succeeds on the strength of Elle Fanning and Justice Smith's charming and tender performances.

Courtney Howard Variety Its pure beating heart and humanistic undertones make it somewhat of a standout. Feb 28, 2020 Full Review Beandrea July Hollywood Reporter A refreshingly sober spin on YA romance. Feb 28, 2020 Full Review Christy Lemire RogerEbert.com Elle Fanning and Justice Smith are gorgeous together and have lovely chemistry. Rated: 3/4 Feb 28, 2020 Full Review Keith Garlington Keith & the Movies And while the movie carries some of the lightweight genre appeal you would expect, “All the Bright Places” deserves credit for not just having serious intentions, but actually showing them on the screen. Rated: 3.5/5 Aug 19, 2022 Full Review Carla Hay Culture Mix Although [it] won't be an easy film to watch for people who are triggered by the same issues that the movie's teen characters are coping with, the intention is to help bring awareness to these issues so that people can get and give help in real life. Jul 11, 2021 Full Review Natasha Alvar Cultured Vultures Ultimately, Violet and Finch never attain a living, breathing quality that moves beyond the page on which they were conceived, and that, my friends, is dark stuff indeed. Kate M I feel as if this movie really grasped the concept of two teens who were struggling with mental illnesses. The film shows them finding the joys of life with each other again due to their adventures for their school assignment. The ending of the film shows that you can still thrive in life even when sad things happen. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 04/25/24 Full Review chitown2bayarea Good sad movie, would recommend it. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/18/24 Full Review David J **** The below review contains some huge spoilers! **** I adore this film. The soundtrack is just beautiful from start to finish. I have yet to read the book so I can't compare Fanning and Smith's performances against their novel counterparts but all I can say is I loved their performances. Fanning in particular. The way she gradually blooms back into life is so beautiful to watch and the way their relationship develops feels real and natural. I don't think this film glorifies suicide and I think you have fundamentally misunderstood it if you think that. The message I took away is not to remember how Finch died but how he lived and to remember life is short, and sometimes hard, so you have to keep an eye out for the bright places that are all around us and appreciate these small pleasures. Like I said, I really really love this film, it's one of my go-to films when I need a bit of brightness back in my life and I'd wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/07/23 Full Review Aline B Very different from the book, an ok movie, watch out for suicide triggers. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 08/22/23 Full Review Len I read the book before watching the movie and I think it's safe to say this is the worst movie adaptation I've ever seen. They didn't get a single scene right and I seriously doubt the people working on this movie had ever even touched the book. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 08/16/23 Full Review Tamyrah F This movie made me bawl my eyes out. It was so good though Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/15/23 Full Review Read all reviews
