What travelers are saying
- Dane CSilver Spring, MD85 contributionsI agree with the other visitors: small museum, well done, everyone will probably find something different that is interesting for them, but everyone takes note of the bullet that killed Lincoln. Free to get into, lots of parking, nice choice of restaurants nearby on Georgia Avenue.Written March 22, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - jaseatonSilver Spring, MD2,483 contributionsAfter an early dinner across the street, we went to the AFI to see “Killers of the flower Moon.” It’s the chilling true story about how white citizens in Oklahoma in the early 20th century systematically murdered members of the Osage tribe in order to steal their oil wealth after oil was discovered beneath the tribal lands. You won’t hear about this growing up in Oklahoma, of course: God forfend that today’s white citizenry should be “made” to feel any discomfort about their ancestors’ crimes. But the true story is much larger in scale than the tiny wedge of the story told in the film. The film is about twice as long as it needed to be (maybe it was such a personal project for Scorsese that he lost all perspective; also the walnuts or whatever that Leonard De Caprio kept in his mouth to give himself jowls we’re quite distracting. But these are quibbles. The main theater itself is a lovingly restored Art Deco jewel: a true joy for any movie lover.Written October 22, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. * Beautiful green oasis in urban/suburban areas
* An escape from the urban concrete
* Nice shaded shaded trails
* Fantastic hidden and tranquil Pine Lake- I saw someone actually fishing!!
* Walking paths all totally very shaded by dense tall trees
* Access from many points and neighborhoods
* Many numerous activities for younger ages- mini train, baseball, ice skating
* Good for picnicking
* Monitored by Park Police
CONS
* Signage for directions on the trails not the clearest
* More commercialized than Sligo Creek Park
* Frequented by other walkers- many pushing baby carriages
* Mosquitoes at Pine Lake
"I VISITED THIS PLACE"...
... when I came out for my daily 0530am power walk, and expected to wander around streets and neighborhoods and shopping centers, but found an entrance into the woods and was entranced and thrilled to find all the paths in the lush shaded green park of Sligo Creek.
Then, one morning, I happened into thie Wheton Regional Park- more commercialized activities but there is the secret hidden tranquil Pine Lake, which for me was nice and scenis and pleasant to me, that I imagined that I had reached it after hiking two hours in the mountains of Colorado.
TIPS
* Do it and go
* Find and enjoy the Pine Lake

Both of the galas I attended have been successful. It is easy to find and public parking is available in the garage building across the street. The plaza in front of the building was abuzz with young folks and families relaxing in the warm evening. The ballroom is attractive and the sound system worked well.Written April 26, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. ... when I came out for my daily 0530am power walk, and expected to wander around streets and neighborhoods and shopping centers, but found an entrance into the woods and was entranced and thrilled to find all the paths in this lush shaded green park.... and then, every morning was another adventure- wandering through the paved trees and ending up in Wheaton or other parts of Silver Spring. I always spent at least half an hour, and once I walked for almost two hours. Exploring the park became my standard default activity from 0530am during my two week vacation there.
TIPs
* Do it and go
* Beware of fast bicyclists sharing the walking path
* Deer easily visible at dusk (yes- I walked after 1900H also.

- jinxminxTakoma Park, MD365 contributionsThe Silver Spring Library was tiny and much more off the main drag when I was growing up. It has been replaced by this lovely, central, community oriented building with lots of light and space to sit and read. Even a coffee shop on the ground floor (though you can't take coffee into the library).Written January 13, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - jaseatonSilver Spring, MD2,483 contributionsThe Forum is a tiny stage next door to the AFI movie theater in downtown Silver Spring. Pretty sure this used to be the space where Roundhouse was in one of its many earlier incarnations. The small stage is viewed by an audience of about 100 max seated in four rows on both sides of a rectangular stage. The performance we saw was Nat Turner in Jerusalem, a 2-person cast show set on Turner's last night before execution. Not especially gripping drama, but the Forum's mission is to elevate your consciousness, not to stage compelling drama. Not sure they accomplished even that mission, but technically the staging was flawless, and the cast, one actor playing Turner and the other actor alternating between the roles of his jailer and the scribe assigned to take his confessions, were not guilty of the playwright's shortcomings. Note: the Forum is only a part-time producer in this space which is shared with our drama companies.Written March 29, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Ruth GColumbia, MD1,143 contributionsMy dad took us somewhere interesting every Saturday when we were kids. This train station was one of our stops. Now it’s a museum and a party venue. It was locked up when we got there, but we could look in the window at the restored interior with its rows of benches and ticket counter as well as railroad memorabelia.Written July 1, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - jw2017556Silver Spring, MD5 contributionsMYBallet is a highly professional program of ballet training for folks of all ages and experience doing ballet or taking ballet classes. As a senior who had studied ballet in my youth, but not since my youth - I attended drop-in classes at MYB and I felt comfortable even in my efforts to "catch up." My original training had been with a Russian ballet master at the Old Metropolitan Opera House in NYC. The class I attended at MYB was at that level or superior, with a piano accompanying the class and each student got close respectful attention. It was impressive. The setting is comfortable and public transit and/or parking are very nearby.Written March 17, 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
