Christ, he was such an insanely talented guitarist. Fuck Parkinson's disease.
Indeed. The manner in which he zips up and down the neck with lightning speed and dead-on accuracy, all while executing a wild array of techniques, is nothing short of stupendous. It boggles the mind that any human could play the guitar at this level of both performance and feel. In my opinion, this is the pinnacle of heavy metal guitar solos.
Parkinson's robbed a true guitar god of his prowess. If only there were a cure on the horizon…
Something I've come to appreciate about Glenn is the range of his playing. That he could write a solo as delicate and expressive as the one in Dreamer Deceiver, and then follow it up with one as fearsome and technically intense as this fifteen years later is honestly a little mind-boggling.
I know a lot of it comes down to trends and which sounds are in vogue at a given time, but there are reasons why things evolve the way they do, and in this case his band was a big part of it. He's a really incredible musican.
So fluid. The man has perfect form. His left hand has incredible economy-of-motion, and his picking hand is absolutely unerring.
That's a great solo, I always thought it was Glenn and K.K. trading licks, until I saw concert videos from the Painkiller tour.
That would be a fun one to learn on guitar, I should give it a go.
Painkiller was the last album I remember that listed who did the solos for each song. For "All Guns Blazing," Glenn was listed as doing the main solo and KK doing the solo at the end
Glenn does both in AGB
Holy fucking shit. That about sums it up.
The fist pump at the end haha. He’s like “yes! Nailed it 😎 “
I have said it before, that tour represented the peak of their powers
Hallelujah 🙌🙌🙌🙌✊✊✊✊✊
Glenn had the most efficient picking and finger movement, something I’ve always noticed and admired. It’s like his fingers never leave the string during his runs they are so close. Amazing technique.
This is awesome but I think the beginning of Metal Meltdown is more impressive, and the fact that they trade it between them even in concert on the Painkiller tour. Fuck Parkinson's.
Legendary
Glenns great but theres a dozen guys on youtube playing it flawlessly in their basements too
So what? There's a heap of 5 year old Chinese kids who can play every Dream Theater song blindfolded and with one arm tied behind their back. They're not Petrucci though.
There are?
I mean, exaggerations aside, yes.
jokes aside I didn't see many nail All Guns Blazing aside from two youtubers
