First female principal at famous 'Royal' school Gordonstoun in Moray

One of Scotland's top fee-paying schools, which counts Prince Charles among its former pupils, has appointed its first female principal.

Gordonstoun in Moray has named Lisa Kerr as principal, to succeed Simon Reid who was appointed in 2010, external.

The school's new "leadership team" also comprises Titus Edge as headmaster and Hugh Brown as finance director.

Prince Andrew is also a former pupil, as is Lossiemouth's Olympic gold medal-winning rower Heather Stanning.

Dr Eve Poole, who is chairwoman of the school's board of governors, said: "Lisa Kerr is an experienced business leader who, following a highly successful 20-year career in commercial media, has been running her own strategy consultancy for the last five years, applying her business skills to a wide range of sectors, including transport, health, technology and the arts.

"Perhaps most importantly, she understands what is special about Gordonstoun, having been a governor for over a decade, and now a parent at the school.

"The combination of Lisa's business experience and her understanding of Gordonstoun make her the right leader to work with Titus and Hugh to develop and grow the school."

Mr Edge, a former pupil of the boarding school which was founded in 1934, is being promoted to headmaster, having been head of the senior school.
