About the Artist
Popular Christian music singer Debby Boone is known for her '70s hit "You Light Up My Life," which stayed at number one for ten weeks in 1977 and won her a Grammy Award for Best New Artist.
Born in New Jersey, Debby Boone's life was full of music growing up. Her father is Pat Boone. At the age of 14, Debby Boone began touring with her three sisters and her father. Her first solo effort was "You Light Up My Life" and it rendered Debby Boone instant fame and fortune. As pop music changed in the 80s to include not only music but videos, Debby Boone found it hard to keep up the pace. 80s pop music seemed more about image than the message behind the music. She turned her interests to Christian and inspirational music. Her albums include The Best of Debby Boone, Songs of Debby Boone and Friends for Life released on Sparrow Records. She won two more Grammy awards in the Christian and inspirational categories.
Slowly, the pace of music became message-oriented again. Debby Boone is getting back into the music industry, influenced by artists Joan Osborne and k.d. lang. Aside from a successful music and stage career, Debby Boone is also credited as being a children's author. With four children of her own, she is somewhat of an authority. She wrote Hours for Little Ones and Tomorrow Is a Brand New Day. Her 1997 book, Nightlights, was illustrated by her husband, Gabriel Ferrer. She has also produced two children's videos, Bobby Boone's Hug-A-Long Songs, Vol. 1 and Bobby Boone's Hug-A-Long Songs, Vol. 2. She has also written her biography which contains growing up with Pat Boone, her musical career and her married life. Bobby Boone So Far was written with Dennis Baker and published by Thomas Nelson Publishers in 1981.
Debby Boone's acting career includes playing Rizzo in the Broadway production of Grease. In 1984 she portrayed Clarissa Hope in the television movie, Sins of the Past. With a vast array of talent as an author, actress and singer, Debby Boone continues to pursue a variety of interests. Pat Boone describes his daughter as a "reluctant risk taker." Debby Boone's single hit "You Light Up My Life" in 1977 brought about the confidence to make Debby Boone successful in all aspects of her life. Debby Boone resides in Sherman Oaks, California with her husband and their four children, Gabrielle, Dustin, Jordan and Tessa. Her husband, Gabriel Ferrer, is the son of popular film stars Rosemary Clooney and Jose Ferrer.

Debby Boone does better on HOME FOR CHRISTMAS, but you have to really like Debby Boone if you're going to reallly like this Christmas album.
Highly produced and accompanied, this is Lawrence Welk on Christmas for the late 80's. Boone has a silky-smooth voice, authentic presentation and a remarkable orchestra behind her.
But if you want a little edge, you won't find it here. You'll find easy-listening Christmas staples, well performed and possible to forget in time for the morning of January 2.
Excellent background music for the Christmas holidays that won't rock your world. That's all. But that can be good.
It's style pretty much a take of the christmas recordings of the female 'crooner' singers of the past, the 1950's and 1960's, though in a more modern sound. And it's really wonderfully done. DEBBIE BOONE really knows how to sing with the best of them and I'm amazed this isn't a modern day classic christmas recording like, say, DIANA KRALL or HARRY CONNIK JR.. That said, it does have it's own touches with a symphony orchestra backing rather than the typical but very nice easy-listening orchestra backing that many of the classics had so many decades ago. But having this large orchestra that performs really well with lot's of strings and brass is so nice for a modern day recording. There is also a wonderful adult and children's chorus backing DEBBIE BOONE up on this release.
My favorite song is CHRISTMAS TIME IS HERE and it may just be my favorite version of the song. Very lush orchestra backing and DEBBIE BOONE sings it with so much power.
The opening track, OVERTURE, is my second favorite track on this cd which is a medley and is an instrumental orchestra verion of. The songs in this medley include CAROL OF THE BELLS and THE CHRISTMAS SONG among several others. Really well done and it is the only instrumental song on the cd.
But all the songs are great on this recording.
Very highly recommended.
In the 1970's, I thought Debbie had a really nice voice. Well I was really surprised listening to this CD for the first time. Excellent! It starts out with a orchestra overture, Debbie singing beautiful songs including her rendition of "Christmas time is here" absolutely lovely. A duet with Rosemary Clooney. Other soft enjoyable Christmas songs as well sung beautifully.
Light a fire, snuggle with your loved one under a throw, enjoy a cup of cocoa and play this CD for a wonderful evening of Christmas.
You will love this album in your Christmas collection.
Best cuts: "Some Children See Him" (an Alfred Burt carol that you don't hear very often... with a great message of inclusivity), "Christmas Time Is Here" (introduced in the Charlie Brown Christmas Special) and "White Christmas" (a duet with Rosemary Clooney, a recording even more poignant now that Rosemary is no longer with us).
