Inspired by a true movement, JESUS REVOLUTION tells the story of a young Greg Laurie (Joel Courtney) being raised by his struggling mother, Charlene (Kimberly Williams-Paisley) in the 1970s. Laurie and a sea of young people descend on sunny Southern California to redefine truth through all means of liberation. Inadvertently, Laurie meets Lonnie Frisbee (Jonathan Roumie), a charismatic hippie-street-preacher, and Pastor Chuck Smith (Kelsey Grammer) who have thrown open the doors of Smith's languishing church to a stream of wandering youth. What unfolds becomes the greatest spiritual awakening in American history. Rock and roll, newfound love, and a twist of faith lead to a JESUS REVOLUTION that turns one counterculture movement into a revival that changes the world. Leslie Felperin Guardian Get thee behind me! Rated: 2/5 Jun 19, 2023 Full Review Alani Vargas Chicago Reader At first glance, Jesus Revolution is an inspiring, heartwarming watch, but it gives a seamlessly joyful look at a movement with a harmful past, in a way that feels like a slap in the face in the year of our Lord 2023. Mar 3, 2023 Full Review Christy Lemire FilmWeek (KPCC - NPR Los Angeles) Although there are very frank discussions about the nature of faith, it doesn't feel as preachy or heavy-handed as a lot of these films do, which to me personally makes them off-putting. Mar 3, 2023 Full Review Abhishek Srivastava The Times of India The narrative falls short of delving into the substantive core of these two influential movements, rendering the film, at best, a superficial and fluffy exploration. Rated: 2.5/5 Jan 13, 2024 Full Review Rachel Wagner rachelsreviews.net These are fleshed out, imperfect characters. Not the paragons of virtue we sometimes see in this genre. Rated: 7/10 Oct 18, 2023 Full Review Rick Bentley KGET-TV (Bakersfield, CA) This is the kind of film that needs to get to a broader audience and Erwin has structured this film to be welcoming. The Z's Excellent in every way! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/05/23 Full Review Jonathan P Had to walk out about 30 minutes in. The conservative characters were portrayed as two-dimensional, ignorant losers with no reason for their beliefs other than blind prejudice... just like Lefties always see them. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 07/25/23 Full Review Becky true to the 60's and the church Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/05/23 Full Review Jean G Good authentic movie about the revival. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 05/03/23 Full Review Nancy R Eye opening, good story. Lots of things I didn't know that were happening at that time.
