My experience at Chaparral high school has been overall very enjoyable. My favorite parts from highschool were all the wish weeks and how much our school comes together during those times. My worst parts were during Covid because it was a hard time for everyone and the online and in person learning was super hard for me. I would like to see more assembly's and more as a school group activity’s, I feel they really bring a smile to everyone’s faces and bring the school together a lot more! In all, I’ve loved the last four years at Chap and all the incoming freshman will love it just as much as my class did.
Chaparral has been my home. Not just for the 4 years I attended, but the many years prior. I watched my brother and cousins all go through Chap and saw their experiences. They all had the best time, and were super involved with sports. I don’t know what happened—maybe COVID— but when I got to high school nothing was the same. The school spirit seemingly disappeared into thin air. Nobody really enjoyed going to sporting events, nobody liked dressing up for spirit days, and most days it seemed like people were just going through the motions. There are a few in the school who did everything in their power to combat this. The security guards are not only protecting our lives everyday, but they also find ways to engage with us. I may have had more conversations with them, than with the rest of my teachers. They make me feel seen and heard. Mr. Larson has also worked to combat the lethargy that plagues Chap is. He is a big ball of sunshine and I love seeing him everyday.
My overall experience with Chaparral High School has been amazing! I have gone to Chap since my freshman year, and will graduate this year, 2024. I’m proud to go to Chap, however mentioning you go to Chaparral when talking about sports, not the great. Our sports are not the best, but our student section is really great! The students of Chap show up, time and time again. Our Red Blue Crew program is the center of this. Also, Chaparral has so many fantastic activities, DECA, FBLA, theater, tech theater, choir, band, all sport, special ED, and many more. Even more, walking down the halls in between classes is truly amazing, I always feel safe. The open windows with the light coming through, everyone saying hi, the security guards are your best friends and so much more. Teachers and your peers are also at your disposal, with anything you need. Chap is a safe place, and very welcoming. I am so blessed to have gone here for high school.
