Former Carlisle United defender Duncan Idehen is the latest ex-Blues player to enter the free agent market.

He has been released by Championship club Bristol City at the end of the 2023/24 campaign.

Idehen, who was on loan at Brunton Park in the 2022/23 season, departs Ashton Gate after two-and-a-half years with the club.

The 21-year-old is one of nine under-24 players let go by the Robins, who have also released three senior pros.

Idehen joined City in January 2022 after previous spells with Norwich City, Lincoln City and Grimsby Town.

He joined Carlisle on loan on a half-season loan early in the 2022/23 season under Paul Simpson.

But the defender was only a fringe player at Brunton Park, making two league substitute appearances and three starts in the EFL Trophy.

He scored in one of those - a 1-1 draw with Fleetwood Town at Brunton Park - before returning to his parent club that December.

Idehen had a loan spell at Yeovil Town in National League South last season and then made a temporary move to Bath City.

He is now looking for a new permanent club after joining Ben Acey, Zac Bell, McIntosh Boyd, Marlee Francis, Callum Hutton, Dylan Kadji, Harry Leeson and Harvey Wiles-Richards from Bristol City's young professional ranks.

The more established figures of Matty James, Andy King and Andreas Weimann have also been let go by boss Liam Manning after City's 11th-placed finish in the second tier.
