Best: How the teachers strive for you to do your best and always expect more out of you. Worst: Weak sense of community; sports seems to run the school, not really any other activities that are highly represented. Change: Maybe more community events, include all activities, and more stricter with students as academics should be important.
Something that I would enjoy seeing improve at Arthur L Johnson is having better guidance when it comes to finding scholarships and handling college applications.
I’ve learned so much at ALJ and plan to continue my education and reach my career goals.
I plan to focus on new and improved study habits to make college years easier and, most importantly, successful.

My overall experience at ALJ was amazing. To have such loving and caring friends, plus an amazing staff surrounding me everyday it such a benefit. The classes are an easy mix of simple and challenging. There isn't a class here that hasn't pushed me to be the best student I could be. We are a small school, so it's so much easier to connect with your teachers and other faculty. You can truly see that every adult in the building cares so much for their students. Even though we are a small school, we still have so many ways to get involved. Through sports and clubs you meet so many good people and staff members. My teachers are the reason that I started enjoying to show up to school. It's a very good and caring community.
I transferred to ALJ after attending Magnet HS after my Freshman year. The best part of the school is the teachers and how they keep you involved in the class, unlike the previous high school I attended. Have not really had a bad part of High School, most kids are good. Many people were behind me in Middle School when my mom suffered a major heart attack and almost died.
so far, my high school experience here is okay! this school is the best to go to if you're athletic and love sports. lots of activities, clubs and fun stuff to do here. the students here are very disciplined.however, this school needs diversity. this school is filled with basic, close minded homophobic or racist white people. (not all of them). ignorant white kids would always something about me.sick of seeing rich white people everyday. if the diversity here was like elizabeth, that would be the best. this school is great for families who want to live in a peaceful area with a safe, non toxic environment. the facility deems a calming ambience for students and teachers. the administration does an excellent job contributing to fundraising .alj is amazing at academics, raising well rounded students, and contributing a safe environment! gave 4 stars, because its only the students that makes this school worse, and theres always room for improvement.
Being in many accelerated-level classes has allowed me to be challenged at my school, for sure. I love being challenged and this school has pushed me to new heights academically. I really enjoyed forming close connections with my teachers because of my small class sizes. Many of the teachers at my school are incredibly personable and kind and go above and beyond to make their students' experiences worthwhile. While the principal and other staff did their best to implement school spirit activities and other social aspects into the school setting, the negative attitude of most of the students persisted; that is my least favorite part of the experience. I've always been an optimist, and sometimes it's hard to focus or stay motivated when the student body around me is generally unkind, disrespectful towards their peers and teachers, and careless towards their schoolwork. I'd love to see the overall attitude of the student body change at my high school.
The school is very good, as a public school, it offers many opportunities for students to take AP classes. It does lack in certain departments. The lack of teachers and subs takes a toll. The diversity is a problem(that's just Clark though). Their safety procedures are terrible, and little security is in the school. The tend to not let the parents know about anything. But the rest is good.
Arthur L. Johnson High School strives to improve the experience of every high school student that walks through their door. From my freshman year to my senior year, Johnson has gone through many different improvements for the better. Most teachers are willing to meet at any time to go over questions and worksheets with you. The peer tutoring program implemented by the National Honor Society is another good resource along with the peer leadership program that pairs freshmen up with seniors. The guidance office is one of the best places for any questions. The counselors are willing to do anything to help with college applications, scholarships, and everything to do with your future. There are many AP courses to choose from as well as a few dual enrollment courses. After school activities include many many Varsity, JV, and a few freshmen sports teams. There are clubs for pretty much everyone as well. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars, is because there's always room for improvement.
It's an overall pretty decent school. Generally, it's a public high school. You'll meet some of the best teachers you've had the pleasure of knowing, and you'll dread walking into some lunatic teachers' classes. There aren't many fights or horrific bullying, which is cool. The cleanliness isn't bad, but most things are broken to some degree. The bathrooms are a whole different monster, but that's more so on the students than the staff. However, everyone should know that the school will never, ever take responsibility for wrongdoings. There was a weapon issue in March 2022, the administration responded terribly, then held an assembly the following Monday and blamed the students for using their phones during the lock down. We are getting new admin this upcoming year, but yeah. We live in a small mostly republican town and it's a public school. Not the worst, not the best (especially for my minority friends). The actual education is decent though, a good amount of extracurriculars too.
Arthur L Johnson offers its students a great education and overall high school experience. I have had the opportunity to participate in various types of classes that have provided me the ability to explore areas of interest and help me find a focus for my college careers. Being a smaller community, everyone at ALJ knows each other and we really come together to support each other. The teachers really care and go out of their way to make the school and their classes fun and interesting.
Ok teachers, but all of the students pretty much were awful. I was there four years and still did not have any study skills that weren’t learned outside of the school.
I’m sorry but all this school did was give me trauma. Everyone is so close minded. It’s all white people who are racist. Some of the teachers had inappropriate relationships with the students and nothing was ever done about it. Sexual assault is not taken seriously. They wouldn’t even allow us to give a moment of silence for a student who committed suicide. They only provide us some form of care for their own reputation. The positive side of my experience was it really did help me understand the world better and be the person that I am that allowed to understand what I want and need from the world.
It was a great environment and I really don’t see anything that needs to change. The teachers were great and always willing to help if I needed any extra help with work or a subject. The people I had in class were always friendly and also helpful if we were working on a project as a group or as an individual. Also we all had a great pride in our school along with all our teams!!
I had an amazing time here at this school. Everyone is very supportive and the teachers are always willing to help. Even when you are struggling with schoolwork and balancing your scheduele, either guidance or another teacher is always willing to lend a hand.
The overall atmosphere at Arthur L Johnson is very positive. It fosters creativity and a safe environment for all. The faculty here is always looking out for you best interests and never want to hold you back from your truest potential.
Personally, when I felt that I was not growing academically with the classes I was taking, guidance helped place me into higher level classes for which I can handle. If I wanted to do something, the faculty here was willing to support me by my side. This is the experience for many students here and will continue to be after I graduate.

Attending Arthur L Johnson created my resilient work ethic, allowing me to stay up to par with all the gifted and talented students that I am surrounded by. Arthur L. Johnson is one of my greatest blessings that allows me to grow and flourish as an individual everyday. The staff and teachers work incredibly hard to supply all students equal learning opportunity in order to carry out fortunate lifestyles out of high school.
What i enjoyed was making a lot of friends along the way. What i want to see change if there wasn't a pandemic would be to have more activities such as trips or like "homecoming" dance.
