Dining

Dining at Salamander Middleburg shows off the region’s exceptional, high-quality local ingredients. Choose from three dining spots and take cooking lessons at Harrimans Cooking Studio.

Salamander Middleburg Dining

Harrimans Virginia Piedmont Grill – Open for breakfast, dinner, and Sunday brunch, Harrimans Virginia Piedmont Grill celebrates the best of local produce in an elegant and relaxed atmosphere. From a 48-hour brined pork chop to pan-roasted sweetbreads and a 22-oz. prime bone-in ribeye, the menu stresses the bounty of the region. The fundamentals of their farm-to-table principle come into their own in non-meat dishes, too, with ingredients from the resort’s culinary garden, from brussel sprout Caesar to pear carpaccio and glazed Thumbelina carrots.

Gold Cup Wine Bar – A location near the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains means not only having prime ingredients available to cook with, but extraordinary wines to choose from, and Gold Cup Wine Bar offers the best of both. This relaxing, pet-friendly venue is the ideal place to taste local wines paired with delicious regional fare surrounded by staggering views of the Virginia countryside.

Market Salamander – With the sophistication of a modern gourmet market in an idyllic small-town setting, Market Salamander’s relaxing atmosphere is ideal for an indulgent breakfast or light lunch. In the village of Middleburg, a short walk from the hotel, pick from a creative breakfast, fresh sandwiches and wraps, burgers, and carefully selected picnic options to take away.

Harrimans Cooking Studio – Every Saturday afternoon, the Salamander Resort & Spa chefs host an interactive cooking class that will take you from amateur chef to fine-dining master. The chefs share their knowledge while you create items from their seasonal menus. Enjoy the fruits of your labor when the cooking studio becomes a private chef’s table for an exclusive dinner at Harrimans.

Incredible Resort!!

This resort is nothing short of incredible! From the moment we arrived everything was perfect! The staff was incredible and very accommodating! The room was incredible, everything we could possibly need was there! The morning breakfast was also incredible. Although we did have a minor issue with wait staff at breakfast, the waiter accidentally spilled coffee all over the table and on my wife's lap. It was an accident and he was apologetic about it, but no one from management at restaurant or even our waitress came to apologize. There seemed to be no management at breakfast.

Wonderful First-Time Stay at Salamander

Sun May 05 2024 14:05:52 GMT+0000 (Coordinated Universal Time) by Shandra S

My aunt and I just spent the past 5 days at the Salamander (first time guests) and had an incredible stay. The property is gorgeous, our room was spacious, and the service was top-notch - every team member was professional, helpful, and courteous. Our breakfast and dinner at Harriman’s was amazing (the sasso chicken was sooo good) and we enjoyed the food and drinks at the Gold Cup Wine Bar, as well (esp. the hand-tossed pizzas and blood orange margaritas). The Market Salamander in downtown Middleburg was a bit underwhelming for breakfast and I would not recommend. The spa had nice amenities and our treatments were really good (we both struggled to stay awake during our massages because they were so relaxing). The only downside was the lack of attendants at the spa pool area and no ability to easily get drinks or refreshments. We discovered that drinks were available upon request, but they were not complimentary ($16 for a glass of Prosecco), which seemed odd given this is a luxury spa. So while we’d hoped to spend the afternoon after our treatments lounging at the pool, we had to leave to get food/drinks. Despite some of the shortcomings of the spa, the resort overall is amazing and I’d certainly return again. A special “thank you” to Ryan who helped us secure courtesy vehicle rides to downtown Middleburg and Cana Winery (and for also returning the sunglasses I forgot in the car); Brianna at the front desk whose warm disposition and cheerful smile brightened each day of our stay; Anna at Harriman’s who made our dinner experience wonderful; Misty and Greg at the Gold Cup Wine Bar who provided such excellent service in the midst of the happy hour rush; Alison at the spa for an incredible massage; and Elizabeth with concierge for arranging our transportation to/from the airport.

Wow Salamander blew our minds away! It was such a beautiful property with expansive grounds and lawns it was such a beautiful walkable property! The food at the restaurant Harrimans was stellar! The rooms were so quiet and has such nice soft sheets it was brilliant! Finally the gym and pool were really nice there are a lot of kids in the pool. So, make sure to expect that.

We Had an Excellent Spring Break Here!

Sun Mar 24 2024 16:16:50 GMT+0000 (Coordinated Universal Time) by testy24

We were looking for a truly classy resort on a country property within striking distance of DC, and found it in the Salamander. The hotel is beautifully decorated; the common areas (library, lobby, etc) warm, large and comfortable; the staff very friendly and helpful; and the spa and spa experience excellent. Our suite was large and welcoming; the bed was perfect, and the L-couch in front of the fireplace in the living area made for great March Madness viewing. We enjoyed strolling the ample paths that wind through the outdoor areas, bushwhacking through the woods (see below), the free car service, and the expertise of the concierges with whom we worked. The location is perfect for getting west (check out Upperville, Sky Meadows State Park for well-marked hiking, and the unique village of Paris), south (visited Rectortown, Delaplane, Marshall, and more), and east of course to DC. Easily accessible also from Dulles, I highly recommend the Salamander. Only two downsides: 1) the trails on property were inaccurately marked, and not enough of them were loop trails, and 2) the bathroom could use a few more hooks/towel racks. Pretty minor critiques in the grand scheme of things!
