Warning: Contains spoilers for Titans season 3.

When Titans returns for season 4, the HBO Max series needs to bring back Dawn Granger’s superhero Dove to wrap up some unfinished business. Titans has built up a huge cast of characters to draw from at this point, and while not every character needs to make an appearance in Titans season 4, Dawn’s presence is essential.

Dawn Granger’s Dove (Minka Kelly) has appeared in all three seasons of Titans so far. Her storyline largely focuses around her origin as a hero alongside Hank Hall’s Hawk (Alan Ritchson), forming not only a crime-fighting partnership but an often tumultuous romantic relationship as well. In the Titans season 3 episode “Hank & Dove,” Jason Todd’s Red Hood (Curran Walters) told Dawn that shooting him would save Hank. However, the gun that she was holding triggered a bomb attached to Hank instead, leading to his immediate death. In the wake of Hank’s death, Dawn left for Paris to work through some things and was not seen for the remainder of season 3.

Dawn had a long and extensive relationship with Hank, and while it wasn’t always positive, it was tied to the way that she had worked through previous trauma and grief. After Hank’s death, Dawn leaves the show very quickly and has minimal closure on having effectively murdered a man she loved for many years. While the team—and by extension the viewer–gets some much-needed closure from Donna Troy (Conor Leslie) and Tim Drake (Jay Lycurgo) meeting Hank in the afterlife, Dawn is owed some onscreen closure and needs to return in Titans season 4 so that she can work through her trauma and guilt over the whole affair. There is also a small hint that Hank might return to Titans in some way.

Dawn’s Titans season 4 return has not been directly set up, but the door has certainly been left open. The Titans season 3 finale introduces ARGUS to the Titans continuity as "Vee" attempts to recruit Donna to the shadow organization. Wonder Girl plans to take Hank’s message to Dawn in France, which will offer some off-screen closure for her, but it also has the potential to set up Dawn joining ARGUS' ranks as well.

Alternatively, Dawn’s return could come with her and Barbara Gordon (Savannah Welch) splintering from ARGUS in some way to form the Birds of Prey in the Titans continuity. In the comics, Barbara in her post-Batgirl role as Oracle serves as the head of the Birds of Prey for extended periods. While the group has played host to many members over the years, both Hawk and Dove were part of the team at different times, so it would make sense for Dawn to return to Titans in this way.
