Couple's Relatable Definition of Finding 'Your Person' Melts Hearts

Many people have different theories on when you know you have found 'your person'.

Romantics have long supported the notion of having a single soul mate or one kindred spirit you are destined to be with, but many psychologists have debunked the concept of there being one person for everyone and the myth of the soul mate. However, relationship therapist Dr. Chloe Carmichael says that there may be multiple ones that come into our lives in different stages.

One TikTok user's perspective of finding 'your person' has gone viral in sweet footage of a couple holding hands, which has garnered more than 1.6 million views.

Justin Huntt (@justinhuntt) shared his take on TikTok: "When you find your person, you'' crave them, the physical touch, eye contact, their scent.

"Needing to be next to them when you are in the same room and missing them the minute they are gone.

"They are who you feel safe with; that's a different kind of connection," Huntt added.

The video gained over 212,000 likes, and thousands of commenters have shared their thoughts on the clip, which shows the text superimposed on footage of a couple holding hands.

Maira wrote: "It's a different kind of feeling? I don't have to have my guard up around them. I can be me and they can be themselves. no judging. just us against the world."

Another added: "The right person will come only after you have learned from your past patterns and learnt to love yourself first."

In an article written for Women's Health, Carmichael refuted the notion there is one single person for everyone, but said that this is a positive thing.

She added that, in the early honeymoon phase of a relationship, it is easy to get caught up in lust mistaking someone you are dating as the one, rather as a one. Carmichael said that we all have many of these, rather than a sole match for our entire life span.

The therapist added that the one will be "relationship oriented, reciprocal in choosing you, trustworthy, sexually compatible and comfortable with you, respect your differences, someone you don't have to be around all the time and someone you can work through conflict with."

Amber James wrote in the comments section: "Feeling safe, secure, calm, no feeling of butterflies. It's a different feeling for sure!"
