Steven Weber is continuing his mission to be on every show ever. The ubiquitous actor is headed to Chicago Med in a recurring role in the NBC drama’s sixth season, TVLine has learned.
Weber — who most recently starred in Netflix’s 13 Reasons Why and NBC’s Indebted — will play Dr. Dean Archer, a wry, blunt and talented physician who makes the move from a rural hospital to Gaffney Chicago Medical Center’s Emergency Department, where he already knows one of the docs. As a former Naval officer, Dr. Archer oversaw Dr. Ethan Choi (played by Brian Tee) during active duty. But with Ethan as the newly instated chief of the ED, Dr. Archer finds himself struggling to be second-in-command. Weber is slated to make his debut in early March.
As showrunners Andrew Schneider and Diane Frolov recently told TVLine, Ethan will have his own struggles as the ED’s chief. “[There’s] a lot of strife and adapting to” his new position, Schneider previewed. “It’s not only the pressure that he puts on the staff, but the pressure he puts on himself to perform. There are consequences.”
Weber is best known for his leading role in the 1990s NBC sitcom Wings. His many TV credits also include — deep breath! — Get Shorty, Ballers, NCIS: New Orleans, Mom, iZombie, Chasing Life, Brothers & Sisters, Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, and Once and Again, among countless others.
Chicago Med returns tonight (at 8/7c) with a new episode, followed by Chicago Fire and Chicago P.D. Hit the comments with your thoughts on the show’s latest addition!
He’ll be a great addition
I will watch Steven Weber in anything, anywhere.
Amen!!
I love him in everything. He was amazing in Mom, NCIS:New Orleans & Wings. I’m sure he will be awesome on Chicago Med.
Adding Weber to Chicago Med is a mistake. The cast they have now is good, not as strong as the original cast, but tolerable. Weber is NOT a great or even good actor. He’ll ruin the show! He said overacts in drama, but is fine in comedy.
I totally agree. He will ruin this show.
I totally agree. I have very good intuitive skills even though I haven’t seen him in other things.
Mayor Hamilton as a Dr? 😩🤯😂 what a stretch!
Is anyone else tired of April’s character whiny and always same emotions. Please either get rid of her or better storylines
That’s the writers, she only plays what she’s given. I am also tired of her whining about her lot in life in the hospital. She can’t save everyone.
My preference would be to continue to develop the primary cast and stop trying to add in new characters. I’ve seen Steven Weber I’d like him in some shows but I just think they’re creating a necessary friction now probably between Choiand him. Chicago Med has been hit-and-miss for me since the departure of Connor Rhodes so I’m not as invested as I once was and don’t really care for the direction they’re taking many of the characters
My preference is we don’t need any additional, recurring, or new characters to add. Just develop the primary cast and stop all the silly friction and tired tropes that this show is turning into. I’m not a fan of the direction that they’ve been going especially since the departure of Connor Rhodes. I’m not happy with the characters evolution, they seem to be going backwards. I’m not as much of a fan of the show as I once was so I’m not as invested anymore. For me, the show is not as compelling as it once was–just a mere shadow of its former self
I would like to see Ethan and April get back on track and get together maybe she should have another baby I liked their chemistry and dr halstead needs to stop acting like he is the only dr that knows anything and stop making so many mistakes he needs a love interest. Love these shows.
I’m still waiting for a ‘Wings’ revival. They’re rebooting every other show from the 80s, why not that one?
Steven Weber is always welcome on any show looking to improve its bona fides.
I am tired of the love interest. I would like to see a story line complete. They should have completed story line on the abduction or they stabbing
My first impression is not a good one. It seems that he is putting himself ahead of Dr Choi. His thoughts about nurses are antiquated. I am not impressed at all. He is much too pushy. He is taking advantage of the fact that he was DrChoi’s Superior when he was in the service. I hope somebody see through him.
They made episode like a documentary terrible
