There is a little path that leads to a gazebo with a lovely view of Lake Superior for those who do not want or cannot climb the tower stairs. For those who climb the tower, the view of Lake Superior and Duluth is wonderful!Visited August 2023Written August 12, 2023
- Tara SMinerva, Ohio65 contributionsBreathtaking view of harbor and lift bridgeThis really was a great experience! Short walk to tower from parking lot. When you get to top of tower you will get an unforgettable view of Deluth and harbor. If you're lucky you will be able to see them raise bridge for incoming ship. Plus it's free!!Visited September 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten September 18, 2023
- Lisa B13 contributionsGreat spot!Very nice little park to walk through and the tower is a gem. Don’t miss the great lookout in the park to the right when you walk around it. Stunning views, safe stairs to climb in tower. Toddler friendly. Well kept. Pretty good incline to walk to get to stairs of tower but paved, pulled a Dagon up it. Would recommend to anyone coming! Great job Duluth!Visited September 2023Traveled with familyWritten September 19, 2023
- Arthur S12 contributionsGreat viewsDefinitely pleasantly surprised. Duluth and the surrounding areas had so many great views. I would go back abd spend more time, for sure. The waterfalls at Gooseberry Falls, were great, as well as the Lighthouse at Split Rock.Visited April 2024Traveled with familyWritten April 25, 2024
- TriCityDudeSaginaw, Michigan794 contributionsEven with a wheelchair, can get to the overlook and see the awesome views!Came with person with wheelchair needs and was able to wheel up to the platform overlook and gaze at the city, bay, and ships below. Roll up to the old bathroom building and follow the walkway behind and it slowly angles up to the deck overlook on the rocks. Great job making this accessible! Located in a park area with some lovely gardens, the views from the top of Enger Tower can't be beat. There are stairs inside the tower, but it's a pretty easy climb. Because the tower is completely open (no windows), it got VERY windy inside, especially at the top. This may not be the best choice to visit on a cold day for that reason. Make this part of your tour of Skyline Parkway and take time to stroll through the gardens at the bottom. 20 minutes is probably all you need for some nice photos.

The tower was built by a very successful Norwegian emigrant who what to should his gratitude for what he accomplished in building his business. To reach the tower you travel on the Skyline Parkway. Then you up pathway to the tower. You can also climb the stairs in the tower to enhance the view.

After checking into our hotel with our group of fifteen, our friend from Duluth met us and offered to bring us to Enger Park and Tower to see the city and Lake Superior. This was a short drive through a residential section with an ample parking lot.
Lucas guided us to the tower within minutes while providing us with some natural history of the area. It surely helped to have no wind, nearly no clouds and pre-sunset lighting.
With Lucas providing the human and natural history of the Duluth area and as a recreation professional, the students learned a great deal about the park, the industrial development of Duluth, kayaking and diving opportunities as well as rock and ice climbing venues.
Enger Park is an easy walk and well worth the short drive from Canal Park.

Good trip. We arrived at approximately 4 pm and made our way towards the entrance of the park in order to find a parking space. We then walked a short distance to the Enger Tower, where we made the trek up five flights of stairs. The climb was worth it, as the views at the top of the tower provided 360 degree views of Duluth. We were able to peer through the windows, at the scene below us. The rest of the park contained walking trails and looked like it was very nicely maintained.
Tip: I recommend spending 15 minutes here if you want to experience the Enger Tower (more if you want to spend some time at the park)

Historic stone tower crowns Duluth's height, giving you a view of the entire harbor, the city sky- and coastline, and up the St. Louis River Valley. The multi-level tower is quite open, and not a difficult climb. Nearby grounds have a Japanese garden, picnic areas, and restrooms.

Even in Winter, we could tell Enger Park has so much to offer. We were able to get a decent parking spot at the base of the hiking trails. It's a short hike to the main park area where the paths split. The Enger Tower was closed for the season, but even experiencing The Tower from the outside has us excited to return during the Summer to climb to the top from inside. The overview of Duluth was still open. We were able to get fantastic shots and take in the beauty downtown Duluth has to offer. Lake Superior in the background looks like the end of the work with this infinite appearance.

What a very cool spot. We were pleasantly surprised with the Enger tower, and a good amount of parking, and the gardens. My wife and I walked the gardens after an evening rain. It was definitely more than we expected. The views were great from the tower. The history of the gardens, the Japanese bell and all of the interesting walking paths make this an add to any visitor looking for a change of scenery while in the City of Duluth, MN

Really beautiful, calming park amidst the bustle of Duluth. There are plenty of opportunities to hike and explore, or merely to relax and take in the beauty of the greenery and Lake Superior. The tower is lovely, and is lit on special occasions. We liked the Japanese gardens, and the bathrooms were very clean (which unfortunately isn't always the case in parks).

How far of a walk is it to a bench or picnic table from the parking lot?
Would like to bring my elderly father for a picnic but he cannot walk far.

The parking lot seems to fill up pretty quickly so if you can go earlier in the morning especially if it's a nice day you should be in luck. There were a couple of picnic tables very close to the parking lot. I would assume there are handicap parking stalls available, but can't remember for sure.

Is it dog friendly?
Jolane S
Duluth, MN57 contributions
Yes, in most of Duluth's lovely parks, people may bring their dogs, but they must be on leashes and you must pick up after them. Many parks have dispensers with plastic bags for dog poo. Use common sense while taking your dog through a park and avoid small kids, elderly , etc so your dog is not a nuisance.

We are in our 70's and not in the best shape but found the walk to the tower was fairly easy. We walked to the top of the tower just taking it one flight at a time and enjoying the view at each level. At least try to get to the 3rd level as there is a beautiful view of the harbor from there.
