Joseph and Bridget Moore came to the rapidly growing, culturally diverse tenement neighborhoods in the years after the Civil War. In 1869, they left a more Irish neighborhood for 97 Orchard, a brand-new building. But while this tenement had new amenities, the majority of its residents were German.
