Melrose Place Reboot in the Works With Series Alum Heather Locklear and More Returning
They're moving back in.
A reboot of Melrose Place is in the works, with original cast members Heather Locklear, Laura Leighton, and Daphne Zuniga preparing to move back into the WeHo apartment complex.
As reported by Deadline, the latest reboot of the popular '90s primetime soap opera is in development at CBS Studios and is currently being shopped around to networks and streamers, with a story written by Lauren Gussis, who is perhaps best known for her work on the Showtime series Dexter and Netflix Original series Insatiable.
The new installment picks up years after the original series, which was created by Darren Star, with Locklear, Leighton, and Zuniga reprising their fan-favorite characters of Amanda Woodward, Sydney Andrews and Jo Reynolds, respectively, as audiences return to West Hollywood to catch up with the tenants of Melrose Place.
According to the official logline, "When one of their dearest friends dies suddenly, the OG residents of Melrose Place gather to honor the deceased. But the pressure cooker of a reunion soon uncovers old traumas, rekindles old romances, reignites old resentments, and reveals new secrets… throwing our characters into chaotic drama that's reminiscent of the past, but with a much more modern perspective."
Returning stars Leighton and Zuniga will join Gussis to executive produce the new series alongside Tiffany Grant and Jason Weinberg.
The original Melrose Place aired for seven seasons on Fox between 1992 and 1999, following the scandalous lives of the young adults residing at the show's titular apartment complex. The CW rebooted the show in 2009 with a new cast (and a few cameos), but it only lasted one season before being cancelled due to low ratings.
