Suriya’s 42nd project Kanguva is a much-talked-about film among Tamil cinema fans and industry insiders. The film’s producer Gnanvel Raja has already revealed that it will be the costliest movie in Suriya’s carrier and director Siva is building a whole new world for the period thriller. Now, Siva himself has opened up about Kanguva.

Revealing the meaning of the title, Siva told Cinema Express that Kangu means ‘fire’ in Tamil, and Kanguva is about a person who can wield fire. However, he also cautioned not to take the literal meaning of the word and think Suriya will be playing a man with a superpower. “The mythology-like setting might lead someone to believe this is a fantasy. However, Kanguva is not a fantasy film and Suriya sir’s character does not have any superpowers,” he told the publication.

Siva also said that Kanguva is based on historical events that happened 1500 years ago in Tamil Nadu. “I have always wanted to create an imaginary world and I managed to realise that dream with Kanguva,” he added.

Other than Suriya, Kanguva has Disha Patani in her debut in Tamil, and Devi Sri Prasad composing the music. The film has raised a lot of expectations among fans and it also goes on to prove that the trend currently is to make period and fantasy movies.
