*Major spoilers for season 3 episode 3 of Legacies below!*

Lizzie may not have been the star of "Salvatore: The Musical!" but she might have had the biggest scene stealing moment throughout the entire episode. When all was said and done, Hope delivered a special note to her, bringing Lizzie a much needed message from her mom, the one and only Caroline Forbes. It's a moment that many fans have slowly hoping for and one that will definitely affect Lizzie as she continues onward in season three.

Seventeen got the chance to talk to Legacies star Jenny Boyd about the sweet moment, getting to play Caroline in the musical, and what Lizzie has up her sleeve in the upcoming season.

17: How was it getting to try something new and have to sing for this episode?

Jenny Boyd: It's super vulnerable, for sure. I'm not used to singing really in public. I have more of a folky voice. I think the really cool thing is that Kaylee, Danielle and I all have such different voices. Kaylee has more of that musical theater voice. And so we all brought something really different to it, which is really cool. It's a little scary knowing that it's gonna be out there, forevermore, for the whole world to see. It's really a nerve wracking thing. But it was a really fun experience and I hope that people enjoy it and can appreciate what we all put into it.

17: This was such an emotional episode for Lizzie as she comes to terms with how she feels about herself and her mental health, while also getting to play her mom, Caroline. How was it bringing all of that together?

Jenny Boyd: I thought it was a really interesting trajectory for Lizzie because, in the past, we've seen her be really enthusiastic and performative [with stuff like this]. She's always leading the talent show efforts and everything. It was a surprising turn for her to kind of get a little bit intimidated and introspective by the whole experience. It's her looking into her mom's life through The Vampire Diaries. It does seem like, as soon as Caroline became a vampire, her whole life changed and became very clear. She became very much who she was. Lizzie is feeling like she lacks any certainty in who she is, who she wants to be, and how to go into the world and become an adult. It was really cool for her to sort of compare herself to her mom who she worships and looks up to so much and really feel a lot there.

17: Did you go digging into The Vampire Diaries and The Originals to learn more about Caroline's mannerisms and her story?

JB: I watched The Vampire Diaries before we started shooting, so it's still pretty fresh in my mind. But, it's mostly Lizzie sort of basing the character off of just that hero worship or her own mother. Ultimately, the songs that they had composed for Lizzie to sing as Caroline, it shows that more vulnerable side of her from season one when she's feeling more lost and sort of ignored. It was a softer side that I don't think was she was maybe expecting.

17: Even though Josie had struggled at the beginning of the season, it seems like Lizzie is the one that's feeling the most out of the group.

JB: I definitely think Lizzie deep down does feel just sort of sidelined and, ultimately, she doesn't have that many friends other than her sister, MG, and Hope a little bit. But with both Josie and Hope, they get this sort of attention and have the social mobility that she wishes that she could have more of.

17: At the end of the episode, Lizzie receives a letter from Caroline that talks a bit about Lizzie's mental health and how it's all okay. This will certainly be a powerful scene for a lot of fans.

JB: I'm really excited for viewers to see that because some people probably identify with how lost Lizzie feels in their teenage and adolescent years. I think it's hard for anyone to really feel that they know who they are. I would absolutely define myself as a late bloomer in a lot of ways. It's a really beautiful message to communicate. And Lizzie does miss her mom and it's a real void in her life. I hope that these words of encouragement from Caroline will have a really positive impact on her going forward.

17: Is there anything you can hint going on with Lizzie as the season continues?

JB: Lizzie takes on somewhat of a leadership role in later episodes. There's kind of an opening there for her to take on a little bit more responsibility within the Super Squad and within the school in general. She's sort of trying to step up and do her best as the daughter of the Headmaster and play her part.
