Despite it belonging to a well known hotel chain, this hotel is not up to expectations.
Macau hotels are expensive and despite choosing a "branded" hotel, the rooms are dusty and air is bad.
No breakfast is included, despite the high charges. The hotel looks run down from the lobby to the rooms. Staff are friendly ( maybe because many are Filipinos ).
Located in the older part of Macau, there are many restaurants around. But these catered to mainly visitors from the mainland. You won't find a Pizza Hut, Macdonalds or KFC . So breakfast is a challenge.
If casino is your interest, you will be spoilt for choices. There are many many gaming outlets within a 100m radius. And if you have insomnia, the hotel has a small casino of it's own.
The only reason I'm in Macau is because my last visit was about 10 years ago, and the big Boss from the mainland was there a week before, promising great developmental plans for Macau.

The Hotel is not to be mistaken with the other Holiday Inn Express which is on the next parallel street. First of all as this hotel doesn't offer a pick up shuttle from the ferry terminal / airport our experience to reach it was not nice. We got scammed, in that we had to pay HK 120 for a 6 km drive by a unmetered taxi from the ferry terminal. Metered taxi were unavailable at the ferry terminal with long queue and no sign of any taxi lining up at the ferry taxi stand ,even though we landed in the middle of the day,We were also told that one could not board the public bus with big luggage. I wish we had consulted the hotel to send us a radio taxi instead . While depoarting we did just that and the hotel organised a radio taxi for us to the Macau airport early in the morning.
When we landed our arrival concided with a big bus load of tourists ,which meant the check in procedure got even slower, though they were immediately attended to by another dedicated staff member. This is the first time ever I experienced a long queue for checking into a hotel. The girl who finally attended us did apologise for the delay so no hard feelings.
The room given to us was really not very clean with traces of dust on the phone , clock and mould on the bathroom window screen and tiles of the bathroom as well as hair on the carpet. Looks like room cleaning is very perfunctory .The queens size beds were narrow.Room was well stocked with toiletries and tea/ coffee bags etc. Room window view was not great you get to see dilapidated buidlings.
Breakfast buffet spread was a good mix of local and western food items though it was the same menu on all days that we stayed. We did avail the set menu for dinner and found the local cuisine we tried tasty. The waiters are courteous and attentive.
I would like to mention an extremely helpful hotel bellboy who very patiently in English explained how we could get the bus to Guia Fortress, as we had been declined by many taxis we flagged down outside the hotel. I wish I had noted his name he really went out of his way to guide us.We used the bus to go and walked all the way back as it is not too far from the hotel.
Tip: The closeby Starworld hotel shuttle can be used to commute to Cotai strip.
All in all the stay was good though the rooms really need to be renovated. If a shuttle is operated it would help.

Place is convenient, and shuttle service is available for pick-up and drop-off.
On my stay in 2018, there was some maintenance work going on, and the hotel was a little loud.
The hotel was within walking distance of the old center of Macau, as well as the Guia fort and lighthouse.
Overall, it was a pleasant stay.

We booked two rooms during the Christmas holidays, though non smoking rooms assigned but the odour is still terrible, the moment you step out of the lift you can smell the strong cigarette smoke along the corridor and mind you it is a non smoking floor.
The only merit is the room size, the furnishings are dated and worn-out, seriously need a facelift.
The bathroom shower curtain stained with mould and it's stink.
The hotel is crowded with lots of loud Chinese mainland visitors, so my advice is go look for somewhere else if you don't want your holiday be ruined.

Once you enter the lobby, you kind of knew what was to come right then. The smell, the personalities in the lobby, the surrounding area that differs so much from the old charm of Macau.

I wanted to hide my feeling, and the front desk staff seem friendly and norma, in their white polo shirts with green logos. Good evening, Sir!

When the lift arrived on floor 22, you will be welcomed with old cigarette smell mixed with strong fragrance of cleansing agents. No air purifier could be seen. It would go downhill from there.

I was allocated Room 221X. The room was not just dated and run down. I found hair everywhere, in the bath, and on the floor, even found some 'curly' ones in the bed under the cover. I could just take them as careless cleaning, but keep picturing what mess and actions happened before they let new guests take the room.

I had such uneasy feeling that I had to sleep with most of my clothes on and not covering myself with the beddings, just in case I caught something nasty. The rate I paid was reasonable for the weekend and definitely not the cheapest. Breakfast was also below average.

Only had I check other reviewers honest pictures. I had no idea how this hotel could be rated as 4 out of 5. Now I know. The reviews were all mixed up with the [ Holiday Inn at Cotai Strip ] which doesn't exist anymore and transformed into the Londoner Macao following the pandemic. Many reviews were also in local language, rated 4 or 5 and I wonder how.

I regretted not picking the holiday inn express nearby. which is a new hotel and the price was even $xxx MOP cheaper. I should have known better then. I think this place is only suitable for the kind of tourists spending all night on bacarat tables, probably in need of some chain-smoking and sexy times before passing out. Better luck next time.

I've tried to book a room via IHG website but it said there's no room available, so we reached out by phone and their staff told us the room was still available. We're trying to book a room by phone, but due to staff's lack of ENGLISH SKILL, they suggest us to come and book on the spot.

Because I'm diamond member from IHG, I chose diamond & platinum line. Unfriendly staff name Catherine simply said "No more room" and looked unhappy because I stand in diamond line.

She looked surprised after I told her that I'm diamond member. Thank you CATHERINE for being rude and ruined my holiday!

The hotel itself is dated and the neighborhood is kind of sketchy. Rooms are dated, bathroom although small, felt much modern and clean. Kudos to the staff at the front desk, all very helpful and nice.
Price was somewhat high giving the hotel conditions and surroundings. I would rather go to newer hotels in the island in front, where all the new casinos are.

Nice hotel closed to the city center. A few shops nearby for street food, pharmacies and souvenirs. I did not explore a lot on the facilities as I just stayed for one night. The staff are friendly and helpful, allow me to check in the luggage before the check in time. No hotel shuttle is available.

The hotel was undergoing major renovation. 95% of the public areas that were available to the public (the rest were closed off including the main lobby and one of the restaurants) were in chaos. We had to enter the hotel through the bar at the rear of the building. The reception area was set up in the bar area of the hotel. There was a live band playing in the same room, making it almost impossible to hear yourself think.

At no point before we arrived were we informed of the renovations. Having had known this we would not have chose this hotel as we had 2 young children with us.

Trying to check in we had to wait for a while to gain a receptionist that had some limited English. We were not spoken to about our reservation and just asked for a credit card for the deposit. We were given no information about the hotel facilities or breakfast. We had to ask the concierge about our luggage and arrange ourselves for it to be sent to the correct room.

The next morning we managed to find our way to where breakfast was served (On the 4th floor). We had booked a bed and breakfast rate. Unfortunately the reception had not put our room number on the list for having got breakfast and they had not given us a voucher to exchange at the restaurant. We were denied access to the breakfast buffet. My wife and 2 children had to sit at the entrance whilst I had to go downstairs to reception with the breakfast manager to prove that I had breakfast as part of my room rate.

Given that this is supposed to be a 4 star hotel we were treated very poorly. As they hotel had my credit card number for payment I see no reason why I had to sort our the breakfast situation before allowing to eat.

At breakfast after requesting a non-smoking table we were placed at a table surrounded by smokers. The only distinction that our table was non-smoking was that the staff removed the ashtray.

I also discovered that the rate at the hotel being advertised was less than half that which I had booked (even though I had booked the guaranteed cheapest rate on the central holiday inn website). I managed to get through to a reservations number to have it changed but this could only occur for the second night of the stay.

All in all the service given by the staff attitude was inadequate and very little English was spoken.

The only positive about this hotel is the central location. I would consider this to be the worst holiday inn property I have stayed in.
