Good Food, Reasonable Price

Visited this past weekend. Beautiful place, nice staff. I had the rainbow trout and it was really good. For $19, I received two pieces of trout, a bowl of great slaw, green beans, baked apples and two biscuits. I was very happy and loved the scenery!

FANTASTIC!!! Great staff and service. Fried Chicken was good. Suggest going as they open or make a reservation. Cash only. Great place, great staff, nice to sit on porch and listen to the water.

I was surprised when I saw that the most recent review was from 2022. (Now there is another recent review "hidden gem"). I have concluded that the regular customers want to keep this place to themselves. We have been three times since we first visited last month. Everytime there has been a crowd, but we have never has to wait. The fresh mountain trout (filleted by our waitress at our table) was so delicious that we (and our guests) have ordered the same each time. The main course comes with unlimited sides. Be sure to request homemade apple butter for your bread. And don't miss the desserts including the Key Lime pie. Finally, take some time before or after your meal to enjoy the front porch rocking chairs, the river, and the mountain view. Very relaxing! We have already planned our next visit.

I recently ate ate Caro-Mi for supper. I had a 7 pm reservation and was seated at 7:10, they were very busy. I had the fried chicken, slaw, green beans, baked apples, biscuits and macaroni salad and it was all delicious. The chicken and it’s bark was great as were all the sides. I ate at Caro-Mi 10 years ago and I firmly believe their food is just as good now and the service was also outstanding as it was then. I will be back and not 10 years later.

Hidden Gem

This is a great little hidden gem of a restaurant in the middle of nowhere. The place is very unique decor was super awesome and the food was beyond awesome. The service was amazing. We saw this snake in the water and my nephew tried to catch it. The bathroom was single use style, I was doing my business and the door shook. It was locked, this prevented the Sea Bass situation.

Waited nearly an hour for cold food. Actually brought the wrong food 45 minutes in, wrong table. Waited 15 more minutes for our food that was cold. Didn't bring what I ordered our waitress argued that I was wrong (that she wrote it down). While paying the bill was asked if everything was ok and I replied "do you want me to lie or tell the truth". Answer 'whatever' you feel like. Will NEVER EAT HERE AGAIN. HORRIBLE FOOD AND SERVICE. You can't fix the problem if you don't know you have one.

This is a favorite of some family members, so when they mentioned a family dinner (all adults), I tried to stay open-minded, despite the less than flattering images on their website. The meal starts with a very vinegary slaw, bland macaroni salad, and biscuits served with apple butter (they were too cold to remotely soften regular butter). Upon the arrival of the entrees, we were also provided with green beans and spiced apples (both appeared to have been from a can). Comments made about the entrees at our table: trout had little flavor, the fried chicken had more skin and breading than meat and the country ham was dry; all the entrees were served at room temperature. Needless to say, neither the flavor nor portion sizes justify paying $20 per person.

Worst case ever. Treated my family to what should have been a wonderful time. It was just okay up until the food came. My wife and I had the trout cold and fishy not fit. The chicken was greasy and cold the ham was too hard and cold to eat. Not even fit for the slop. At $20.00 a plate you would expect for much much better. What a shame . Shame on you Cato Mi. You didn’t even attempt to correct the foul so called food that you served us . Charged me over $280 for my family which should have been thrown away days ago. Just a horrible experience. I’m sorry for exposing my family to such a horrible horrible experience

Great Mountain Trout!

My SC friends and I visited this lovely restaurant for supper. Our group was large and we had reservations. The scenic location right by the Pacolet River is so beautiful and relaxing, especially when enjoyed from the many rocking chairs on the front porch!! Our group ate in the awesome pennant room. Many of my fave teams were represented!! The service was efficient and the food was hot! My trout meal rocked! We had a very enjoyable meal!!

My husband & I have been coming here for 17 years.. the food is as wonderful as it’s always been, if not better! And service is always friendly & amazing! We can’t wait to get back in town so we can eat there again!

Way overpriced, same boring menu, no flavor in the food. Basically a way overpriced Cracker Barrel without the shopping. It’s all food from a can. The slaw is okay but way salty.i is

Great Location, Nice People

Two important things to note: Sign says no credit cards, cash or check only, and they don't have any alcohol. That said, the food was okay, there were four of us, we had Mahi Mahi, Fried Chicken, Scallops, and The Steak. My wife had the steak and commented that they must have chased that steer, or cow a while and it got fit, cause it was a tough. The rest of it seemed fine. We will try again someday now that we know the scoop.

Caro-Mi is the place to be

So I was looking for some down home cooking one night on our vacation and couldn’t find it , I had seen caro-mi in my trip advisor searches but skipped it at first thinking it was not the food I wanted. After some time went by and my searches were exhausted I clicked caro-mi, and boy I am so glad I did . The place has been around since 1945 or 47. I called to verify they were open and see if I needed a reservation, good thing I called cause I got the last one of the night at 8pm. And they were nice enough to hold an order of chicken livers in reserve . This place is a step back in time , from the covered bridge to the rocking chairs on the front porch overlooking the river, it sounded so nice . This place is not fancy but it is unique and clean and just the way I loved it . The staff is sooo friendly and courteous , the tea is sweet and the walls are adorned with history . There are different areas around to be sat in and be socially distant . Once sat and beverages are out they bring you macaroni salad and their special version of cole slaw , I loved the vinegar mixture they used too. Then a little later biscuits and homemade apple butter are brought . As they serve your entree they also bring stewed apples and green beans. That night since it was the end the kitchen was getting rid of baked potatoes and we got each got one of them as well . Now the items brought to table may be seasonal I’m not sure but the cole slaw is their special recipe . And to top all that off dessert was pure heaven as well , I had a homemade chocolate pie , and it was divine and worth a75 mile drive together another. I read in one article that some customers fell in love with the place in the late 80s I believe and they bought the place , their son runs it now . I can see why , I’m in love with this place , I’d buy it and not change a thing and enjoy those moments everyday .

Mountain Dining Memories Made Here!

Caro-Mi is a mountain tradition, a cozy, homey dining room nestled along a bold mountain stream and accessed by a covered bridge. Arrive, take a few pictures on the scenic bridge with the river in the background, then get seated in the unpretentious accommodations and select one of their four or five generously portioned specialty meat entrees. Each table is served large shareable bowls of country style side vegetables to go with your order. Service is with a smile and attentive; we found our country ham delicious and the sides excellent. Pricing is moderate. Reservations are recommended. There is a good reason they have been doing this since 1948!
