Indianapolis Reviews

Indianapolis can be a great place for families to settle down in. There are a lot of cool, family-friendly activities and a lot of parks to go to. Indianapolis is also very spirited with its parades and sports fanatics, which can make the place very lively. What I didn't enjoy about growing up in Indianapolis was the school systems. The public schools seem great on the outside, but the quality of education in IPS schools and charter schools have decreased significantly, especially for schools with children from low-income families, which is really where the most help is necessary. Also, the layout of the city itself still reflects its segregated past, with low-income families and minorities living in specific areas, and higher-income majority families living in separate spaces. Because of this, Indianapolis has a big issue with gentrification and cultivating close-minded individuals, leaving less room for truly diverse spaces as people who live here tend to stay in their own bubbles.
Indianapolis has been held hostage by a Republican state legislature for decades. It cannot improve or grow because that would bode poorly for their small towns & even smaller minds. Indianapolis has always been the bogeyman for "urban vs rural" culture war nonsense. Reproductive healthcare is nearly nonexistent because the AG has made doctors afraid to provide necessary care. We cannot expand public transit, get funding to improve our roads, sidewalks, or trails, or to improve our public schools, because people would rather watch their neighbor suffer than pay a cent in increased taxes. Public education has been crippled significantly in favor of religious education, while the schools and libraries are forced into banning books and actively perpetuating harm onto students for the sake of political points. Indianapolis is a cheap place to raise a quiverfull of religious zealots, though, so I guess that's something to somebody. If you don't have family here, don't waste your time.
I have lived in Indianapolis my entire life. The area has been getting a little more dangerous lately, but overall I feel that Indianapolis is a very family-friendly city with lots of different sights to see. Definitely worth a visit!
