Fourteen-year-old Sachet Engineer of Otters and Rujuta Bhatt from Khar Gymkhana dominated the proceedings at the 27th Otters Open on Sunday.

Rujuta bagged five gold medals and a silver smashing four meet records in the process.

The young teen, who has competed at seven nationals, looked a bit discontent for not being able to rewrite the 100m backstroke record.

“I was a little unhappy that I didn’t break the record. It is a 13-year-old record which hopefully I will break next year,” Rujuta said.

Butterfly being her pet event, Rujata has high aspirations for this season too.

“I’m hoping to do well at nationals and my bigger aim is to qualify for the Asian age-group championship this year.”

Busy with the daily routines, the youngster is missing her friends. “If you want to be a swimmer you have to quit a social life,” she rued.

Sachet, on the other hand, has to start his day at 4:30am so that he gets to train before heading for school.

Sachet, who acted in Taare Zameen Par as Darsheel’s older brother, set the pool ablaze winning seven gold medals and one bronze.

For now, the youngster wants to focus on his studies. “Once my board exams are over this year I will focus on getting into the national squad but I don’t want to pursue this as my career. I want to be a pilot instead,” he said adding that backstroke is his favourite event.

“I am focusing on backstroke as that is my strong point and I feel I can make it to the international level in that event.”
