Douglas Nevada Online Students and Families,

I hope that you have enjoyed some time away from the Chromebook this summer and have been able to spend some time with your friends and family. The 2022-2023 school year is fast approaching and I wanted to let you know about the DNO Orientation night on Tuesday, August 16th at 5:00 pm at ASPIRE Academy High School located at 1680 Bently Parkway, Minden NV. This orientation is for students and families that did not attend the DNO Open House on Wednesday May, 25th in 2022 at ASPIRE. If you attended the DNO Open House in May, then you can skip the orientation and arrive at 6:00 pm to check out your Chromebook on Tuesday, August 16th at 6:00 pm at ASPIRE Academy High School.

DNO students are expected to attend the Douglas Nevada Online Orientation with a guardian. We will check out Chromebooks to students and provide important information on the policies, procedures, and changes made for the upcoming school year. Attendance is required in order for students to be able to start on the first day of school on Monday, August 22nd, 2022.

We have an experienced group of educators that know the program and look forward to serving our Douglas Nevada Online students and families. If you are unable to attend this orientation, please contact me at gward@dcsd.k12.nv.us or you can leave a message at (775) 392-1475 (email is the most expedient option).

Thank you,

Gavin Ward

Keys for Student Success at Douglas NV Online

  1. Set aside a distraction free place to work and create a schedule to work 4-6 hours every day.

  2. Work diligently completing tasks/assignments daily for 4-6 hours.

  3. Take quality notes (requirement for 6-12 DNO students).

  4. Check your email accounts daily (Edgenuity and district email).

  5. Reach out to your teacher if you need help.

  6. Utilize resources found on Teacher Landing Pages (6-12).

Douglas Nevada Online will not be mailing progress reports home. It is very important that all parents/guardians check the Actual Grade of their student using Family Portal (grades 6-12) to ensure that students are on track for promotion and credit accrual. The Actual Grade takes into account how well students are doing on the work they have completed and is adjusted for targeted progress. Parents should also check Course Progress (percentage) and compare it to the Target Completion (percentage) as this shows how far students should be at for the current date.

To access the Family Portal, request access from one of your student’s teachers by providing your student’s first and last name, your first and last name, and your email address. You will then receive one email with a link to the portal, and another with a randomly generated access code. Click on the link, then enter the access code and your email address, and create a password. After initial setup, you can log in with your email address and password at any time to review your student’s progress.
