About
La Placita de Santurce is one of Puerto Rico’s nightlife hotspots, attracting both locals and travelers. The placita was originally set up as a market square for local produce, and if you visit during the day, you’ll find a number of colorful stalls and restaurants. However, when the sun goes down, out come the live music and partygoers. Head to one of the many bars for cocktails, and even join salsa dancing on the streets. When hungry, be sure to try out one of the placita’s delicious empanadillas. Don't miss all the best spots on a bar hopping tour of San Juan. – Tripadvisor

You haven't been to San Juan if you haven't spent an evening at the Placita de Santurce.
An eclectic crowd, with street food to fancy dining, completely packed streets around the old Market House on the weekends, formal live music, occasional concerts to impromptu drum playing on the street, fancy rooftop lounges to street drinks in plastic cups, fresh juices and coconut water for mixers, cigar bars, and, if you come before 5pm, the historic market building does still have a weekday market with a good variety of local produce. A much smaller number of bars and restaurants are open on weekdays, so if prefer a more relaxed and less crowded ambiance, consider coming on a Wednesday or Thursday evening. No matter when, you will come back with good memories and an authentic San Juan happy hour night out. If you are in a group, a fairly easy walk from the Condado hotel zone.

    A must see!!
Get here early and find your parking spot! The night life ends at 2am and the time goes by so fast. There are many different bars but only a few places to grab a good meal. Eat before you go or grab a meal here.

Uber to The Placita block party!!!
This is a farmers Market by day n after closing hours and sunset, it becomes a block party! It’s literally a square block of rsnts./bars/night clubs with the market building sitting in the middle. It’s jumping Thursday - Sunday with Saturday night, after 10pm being the peak. Lots of young ppl on weekend nights having a great time, dancing in the streets, singing along n drinking. There’s Marijuana in the air, literally! On Sundays noon till evening there’s salsa n Spanish music in front of Dewald’s, not sure if real name, but there’s a big Dewald sign in front. This place is the most popular we noticed. Spanish singers on Sundays and some regular locals for open mic singing. There are public bathrooms here, they get really messy as the night goes on, n they’re run down. Some doors don’t lock. Bring some bathroom tissue in your pocket ladies, it runs out. During the day, restaurants open around 1 pm n the food in these restaurants at The Placita is authentic Puerto Rican food. We ate at El Popular Restaurant and it was delicious. Average prices. I would Uber, quick n inexpensive, you will pay way more to park around there as there’s no street parking, and they do ticket ppl very often!

    Loud and Fun
Lots of good restaurants and bars here. Loud raucous atmosphere. Get a drink and wander around until you find the restaurant you want or just go to your place. We ate at San Juan Smokehouse. Good, not great, BBQ, fun atmosphere, great drinks.

My husband and I have been visiting La Placita for years and each time we go we enjoy it even more. It is a fun night out, where you can have good food, mix with the locals and enjoy great music and dancing. On our last visit, we ate at Captain Rum, just had some empanadas and drinks there and they were very good. The music was wonderful and we enjoyed watching the people dance.

Good vibes in this spot. I think the hearth of Puerto Rico's nightlife.

You can find good spots to drink and listen good music.

It's very crowded, so don't go there late or you won't find any seat or space. Don't go there with your car or you won't find any parking and you will stay stuck in traffic for hours.

The problem is that when you go to a place like this one, without parking, no security, full of youngsters, and without rules, it should be a blast (depending of your company) at low prices. But no. Expensive very average food, expensive low quality drinks, and hot humid weather is what you got. If you then decided for one of the restaurants around, beware of them. Specially SANTAELLA restaurant which is a tourist trap.

This place was recommended by our hotel staff, the live Salsa/Bomba band was nice, people was dancing in the streets and having a good time. There were bars and clubs that lined the streets, no cover charge. In the front area there were a younger crowd and in the center there were more mature people enjoying and dancing to live band.

The market in the center of the square is pretty small, but has great vegetable vendors. The market square is ringed by a ton of restaurants (Sea Senor looked the best menu, and was great). The whole square gets very lively in the evenings, with a clear competition among the bars and restos to outdo each other with amplification that goes to 11 and beyond. Lots of fun here.

Wow! This place was alive!!! A whole 2 square blocks shut down to traffic. Tons of restaurants and bars. Loud music from both speakers and live bands. People dancing in the streets. I even saw one guy in a wheel chair chilling on a patio drinking from a six pack he'd bought. No rules either. It was fun.

My husband and I wanted to hang out a little while we were in PR. We decided to hang out here. Please don’t go to early because he come to life around 10:00. We caught a Uber and was there around 9:00 because since Covid we were told that restaurants close at 11:00 but the clubs stayed open until 5:00am. This reminded me of a Bourbon Street ( New Orlean)Vibe. Music blasting in the street from clubs, people walking and talking, enjoying themselves. I am going to say I avoid the clubs I did run in an purchase alcohol and back out to the street ( this is Covid). People where every where. I was told by my Uber driver that it gets so pack that people are shoulder to shoulder. Also I want to mention if you call an Uber do it from the bridge. It get so pack that they can’t come in the courtyard so that is the designated spot. I didn’t know and the Uber driver canceled on me and charged me 3.00 cancellation fee. Overall it was a good experience. Oh yeah ladies no heels!!! You want to be comfortable

There are some good restaurants in this area, but the sidewalks are crumbling and it's poorly lit, so walking around at night while there's lots of drunk people stumbling around can get a little messy. It's definitely not a place to take kids. More of an outdoor "meat market" type environment for singles.
